Method Resourcing has recently partnered with a boutique consultancy who's won a large project with a government client in NewCastle. They're fully embedded within the business and have recently been asking to help with a re-platforming project, that is moving a suite of core, legacy applications from Mainframe COBOL to Microfocus COBOL running in Linux with a modern database and translation tier.

They're now looking for a contract UFT Expert on a 4 week basis paying £500 - £550 per day on an outside of IR35 contract.


The team have a low level of skills around automation tooling. The team are not able to take long periods of time away from their day-to-day work for classroom learning, as a trainer you will be responsible for hands on training and will be inheriting a UFT automation suite from the project teams for some components and no automation for other components.


The team require upskilling in UFT to:


* Enable them to maintain incoming scripts
* Enable them to write new scripts
* Enable them to understand what they should automate and what they shouldn't
* Enable them to automatically manage test data
* Execute their automation packs reliably and quickly, providing good-enough reporting

What you'll do:

Key Experience

  • Front end development - Enables us to build applications for the colleague & customer. Typically via the creation of the visual interface of an online or digital asset using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS or UI development
  • Back end development - Makes sure everything works well for our colleague & customers and helps us use data in the right way. It is the coding of scripts in web sites and applications that interact with servers and databases so that their functionality is delivered to the end user. Typically we use c#, Mainframe (COBOL/JCL), SQL, Oracle/Unix and JAVA/CICS/DB2.
  • Business Rules – This development brings to life the various functional aspects of our systems to drive interaction between our colleagues and customers and also support our colleagues in servicing customer needs.
  • Agile Delivery - Agile delivery methods encourage teams to focus on collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement and the delivery of the highest value item first. It is useful when going after a complex problem that requires experimentation and continued adaption. Scrum is a key method we use which advocates a series of meetings (ceremonies) and activities known as sprints to help teams deliver change

The team is responsible for maintaining a mission critical system that is a "system of systems".

Responsibilities:
• Participate in a Scrum team developing modern and innovative solutions for the client
• Undertake implementation work on different modules of the product as required and be able to switch comfortably between areas of the product when necessary
• Perform requirement analysis to create low level design artefacts for individual modules - translate requirements into designs
• Implement modules based on High Level Designs and as per the project’s quality guidelines
• Perform Unit tests and test developed changes in Integration
• Perform root cause analysis of potential issues reported on production as well as test environments
• Implement fixes to address defects raised on the system
• Provide status updates to Project Managers

Candidate Requirements:
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Technical skills
COBOL development skills (on a mainframe is preferred)
• An understanding of hierarchical and relational databases
• An understanding of Transaction Processing is desirable
• A good understanding of ITIL is preferred but not essential
