Job Description Summary

Schroders Personal Wealth is a joint venture between Lloyds Banking Group and Schroders ! Two of the UK’s largest names in banking and asset management. We have are building a strong culture of data-driven decision making across the whole company. And that means we need powerful, real-time analytics and the tools to empower future data scientists and engineers our team will need to become in the future. We are implementing a strategy where our data will reside in one place and data science, analytics and visualisation will be democratised across the firm by self-serve toolkits. We need someone who either wants to build something amazing in a greenfield site or wants to start the transition from player to manager as this will initially be heavily hands on during the establishment of the practice, but has the drive and experience to bring their vision to reality and show the world the power of analytics in the wealth management industry.

Our Data Science and Analytics Practice will be responsible for applying scientific methodology, statistical inference and machine learning models to drive business decisions. A successful candidate should have excellent knowledge and experience of statistics, applied mathematics, and data engineering best practices with the ability to write clean and production ready code. Being a data scientist at SPW means you have the domain knowledge to apply the best of leading edge computer science and data engineering to achieve, the most insightful results that ensure the very best outcomes for our clients.

You will use the insights you gain to understand business problems, challenge existing practices and approaches, and support the implementation and development of innovative solutions to ensure that Schroders Personal Wealth (SPW) meets the needs of its colleagues, customers and stakeholders.

Job Description

The team…

You'll be part of the newly created SPW Technology & Engineering function and report to the Head of Technology Programmes & Change. You’ll have a small team reporting into you and collectively will act as the bridge between Technology & Engineering and business line change services, you’ll also be responsible for crafting and delivering IT Change initiatives on behalf of the business itself. You’ll be leading initiatives to identify business process or operational opportunities/gaps that can be greatly improved with the application of technology. Your team may also be responsible for leading aspects of delivery, monitoring progress, risks and issues etc. within change programmes and provision of meaningful insights on the position of the overall transformation programme via tools such as roadmaps.

What you’ll be doing…

Here are some of the things you will be working on:
 

• You'll have a strong command of conducting analysis with the very best tools and SaaS providers such as AWS, Azure and Google.
• You'll have experience with creating metrics to assess the success and quality of a solution.
• You'll have a strong command of data engineering best practices.
• You'll have a deep understanding of current machine learning and statistical methods and how to apply them to real-world, financial services problems.
• You'll have excellent communication skills and the ability to tell stories with data.
• Stakeholder Management: Engages a variety of stakeholders across priority business/technology areas, owning and gathering input, delivering high quality work and maintaining relationships post project close.
• People & Self Development: Builds and maintains effective working and influencing relationships with appropriate colleagues to share knowledge and best practice. Takes responsibility for self-development, actively seeking and providing feedback and responding accordingly.
• Risk: Owns resolution of business analysis issues, identifying and managing mitigating actions against risks as directed.
• Values and Behaviors: Positively influences others, demonstrates exemplary values and behaviours and encourages this in other team members.

Essential Skills and Experience to have...

• A strong knowledge of machine learning techniques and statistics

  A passion for data, and using data to uncover insights and solve challenging business problems

  Strong communication skills

  Experience in building and leading teams, and fostering a culture of innovation

  A PhD is preferred

  Advanced R, Python, Jupyter, and Alteryx user

  Experience of Data Visualisation to ls

  Experience in using  AWS, Google and Azure data science suites, data technologies

  Working with data in a regulated environment
