Senior Back End Developer - Cross-train into Golang! - £30-50K - Develop technology for good!

*Please note that my client cannot offer VISA sponsorship for this role*

Your new company
I am working with a specialist software provider, to recruit a talented Senior Back End Developer who would be interested in cross-training into Golang. You'll be working from their modern head office location in Bournemouth, easily accessible through direct transport into the centre of town and only 2 minutes from the beach.

It is a really unique opportunity to work for a technology first organisation that are working on projects with a genuine impact to disrupt the industry and improve patient care. This is a hands-on position, so you should maintain a passion for cutting-edge high-quality code and championing software best practice.

Your new role
The scope of the role is wide, there's ongoing internal projects and work for some of the biggest names in the industry, which they have ongoing relationships with. There's no self-contained departments, so the 28 strong team is constantly sharing knowledge and it's a genuine opportunity to fast-track your career.

This is a really unique role, in that there is a genuine opportunity for professional training in Golang, so that you may transition from your current skills in an Object-Oriented language such as PHP or Java.

You'll be working in the entire lifecycle of projects for a company that runs R&D on site and builds products which have a real impact. When you are handed a project, there's a good scope to influence and bespoke it. You'll be working with the latest technologies to deliver the right outcome, not to be caught shipping software to meet deadlines.

What you'll need to succeed
They want someone who lives and breathes technology. You'll need a deep level of Object Oriented language knowledge/MVC. Java and PHP would be great skills, as the company already utilise these technologies for existing projects.

As mentioned above, they are looking for those that push best practice, including SOLID design patterns, TDD and BDD. They are also looking at those not afraid to move across technologies and to suggest new tools to suit the job.

The company runs Agile and if you've got knowledge of DevOps/Infrastructure then great, but they do not expect cloud skills for this role.

Skills Overview:

  • Programming in object-oriented language using classes / MVC
  • Big project experience with good software engineering skills
  • Golang, Java, PHP
  • MySQL
  • Docker, Kubernetes, Apache / Nginx - structured methodical approach to programming
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of working in an agile team

What you'll get in return
The company offers great flexibility across the board and there is no micromanagement there. They want someone invested in the cause and who is interested in seeing their efforts have a genuine effect on the organisation. They are a very supportive employer and will fund courses, qualifications and conferences to improve your skill set. You'll be fully trained and supported to enable you to cross-train into Golang.
