Data Engineer

You will join us as a Data Engineer and will be working within a team responsible for delivering Digital Excellence. Derbyshire Constabulary are putting data and analytics at the heart of how we deliver policing. This role is to assist in developing the solutions to make that possible. You will be working with some of the latest technologies to transform data from transactional database, allowing analysis to take place from a central data repository.

The post holder will be working alongside the analytical team ensuring the data needed is available in a timely manner to allow informed decisions to be made.

Data Engineer Responsibilities:

- To design and develop database architectures using appropriate methodologies.
- To performance tune any databases used in the analytical solution.
- To write complex queries using a variety of database tools.
- To design and develop strategies for data quality checks and data cleansing.
- To utilise most appropriate method for making data available for analysis purposes.
- To liaise with stakeholders at all levels ensuring their data needs are met.
- To liaise regional teams ensuring changes with shared database schemas are reflected in the analytical datasets.
- To deliver innovative solutions to organisational problems and priorities.

Data Engineer Requirements:

- Educated to degree level in Applied Mathematics or Computer Science, or equivalent.
- Proven experience of developing data driven solutions.
- Proven experience of optimising databases (indexing, performance tuning and optimisation).
- Proven experience of different data architectures (data lake, data warehouse and data marts), knowing when to use which approach.
- Proven experience of cloud, on premise and hybrid architectures.
- Proven experience of latest cloud database technologies.
- Proven experience of working with leading cloud solutions (e.g. AWS or Azure).
- Proven experience of different methodologies for data storage design.

Desirable:

- Microsoft SQL Server Qualifications.
- Microsoft Azure Qualifications (e.g. Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer Associate).
- Oracle Database Qualifications.
- Big Data experience.
- Knowledge of ITIL.
- Hands on experience of Power Bl.
- Experience of producing high quality briefings and reports for senior officers and / or staff.

• Use a bespoke system to build a Content Management System for each website built
• Liaise directly with clients when taking on new projects ensuring that their needs are accurately captured

Required skill set:
• Excellent HTML and CSS skills
• Experience of .NET using C# and Web Forms
• Knowledge of MS SQL Server and Classic ASP
• Experience with JavaScript
• Excellent organisational skills and communicator
• Demonstrate the ability to work on more than one project at any given time
• Be efficient, organised and able to work accurately to tight deadlines
