This is an exciting opportunity for a rising star Wordpress Developer to join one of the fastest improving and most innovative education groups in the country.

Luminate Education Group consists of Leeds City College, Keighley College, Leeds College of Music, The White Rose Academies Trust (WRAT) and recently Harrogate College. You would be joining our Marketing Department for the FE colleges in the group, which operates as an in-house marketing agency and have the following teams; market insight, design, videography, social, web development, events, communications and PR.

The ideal candidate should have a positive outlook and a can-do attitude, always seeking solutions rather than stating problems.

We have plans to redevelop a number of significant websites over the next 3 years integrating world class functionality for users.

Responsibilities for the successful Developer:

  • Build search engine friendly websites
  • Deliver crisp, clean and clear code in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Produce responsive, mobile-first and retina-ready work
  • Develop unobtrusive JavaScript using standard JavaScript libraries and plugins (e.g. jQuery, prototype etc) plus bespoke code where required
  • Process our JavaScript and CSS into minified and uglified files
  • Project and People Management

Technical skills required:

  • Live and breathe HTML5, CSS3, jQuery and AJAX
  • Javascript
  • Knowledge of version control such as Git
  • Knowledge of Windows Servers and IIS would be helpful
  • Experience with Laravel, Angular, React, gulp
  • phpMyAdmin management
  • WooCommerce (customising and developing)
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative suite
  • Familiar with testing across all modern browsers
  • 3rd Party and API integration

Personal skills required:

  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and interest to stretch into various roles and responsibilities
  • You have high standards on the quality of your own work and like to share your knowledge
  • You see solutions rather than problems
  • Confidence in your own ability and ideas, while being receptive and professional with feedback
  • A good understanding of website user behaviour and how it affects UX/UI design
  • The confidence to ask when you need support
  • Professional communication skills (English) with presentation skills a bonus
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and a demonstrated ability to think outside the box when coming up with solutions to problems
  • Excellent attention to detail and efficient working practices

We’re not looking for a cog in a production line. The successful developer will be proactive in seeking better ways to do things, will input into the creative strategy, and will work closely with all members of the team to deliver the best possible solutions for our clients.

We’re a really friendly in-house agency with a close-knit and very supportive team. We work in our Park Lane Campus, based in the centre of Leeds and have an onsite cafe and Greggs.

Luminate Group is committed to Equality of Opportunity (ensuring everyone is treated fairly) and safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants are required to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check as well as mandatory pre-employment checks which may also include checking social media profiles. We positively welcome applications from all sections of the community
