Automation Tester (Software Developer in Test)

Location: London

Clearance: Please note that due to the timescales the client requesting profiles with an active SC clearance

Sanderson Government and Defence are delighted to be presented with a well-established client who are looking for an Automation Tester to join their team.

Please note that the role is outside IR35!

Automation Tester is key role in the project delivery team, they are required to provide testing deliverables and services to ensure that work is properly attributed and completed to a sufficient quality.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of modern test automation tools (e.g. - Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, SpecFlow, Postman)
  • Full software development lifecycle experience - 3+ years of monolithic (Waterfall, V-Model) and 2+ years of Agile (e.g. - Scrum, Kanban, DSDM, XP) development methodologies with recent emphasis on automated software testing
  • Experience operating GitHub build tools and Continuous Integration / Delivery
  • Exposure to Microsoft Technologies such as SQL, IIS, Team Foundation Server (TFS) & Windows
  • Ability to specify and create tools, test harnesses and automated scripts to increase efficiency
  • An aptitude for testing, with initiative that can be applied to different testing scenarios depending on the needs of the project, and a self-interest to learn current & new testing methodologies, techniques and approaches.
  • Expertise in areas of testing such as BDD, TDD, Model-based Testing, Test Automation and/or UI Testing would be preferred
  • Track record of complex problem solving in a multi-disciplinary team with the tenacity to speak up and drive action in times of ambiguity
  • 2-3 years programming experience in one or more of the following common languages: Java and/or C# coding experience

Desirable Skills

  • ISTQB certification
  • Experience with Windows application platforms
  • Debugging and code inspection skills
  • Experience with Atlassian's Jira, Confluence, Zephyr and Microsoft Azure DevOps
  • API testing experience and knowledge of tools for API testing
  • Experience of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery
  • A good working knowledge of consuming RESTful services, XML, and JSON
  • A good working knowledge of Windows PowerShell

For one of our clients, we are looking for experienced Agile Tester with solid technical skills to help implement agile testing principles.

You will work with our senior manager to help the client transform and move to agile testing. As a role model, you will be embedded in a scrum team, where you will

  • Champion the role of Agile testing by reviewing acceptance criteria making sure they are complete and have captured all scenarios,

  • Ensure features are tested within sprint according the definition of done-ness
  • Demo features to product owners and stakeholders
  • Challenge technical decisions,

  • Attend dev forums to understand what is going on and how that affects quality,

  • Review unit tests to make sure they are being implemented and measure coverage with tools like SonarCube

  • Establish automation architecture and drive the process to involve the whole team

  • Transform the scrum team to continuous testing and eliminate manual regression testing.

This role is initially for 4-6 weeks as a pilot project with the potential for a long term extension for the right candidate.

We are looking for someone who really understands what Agile testing and in-sprint automation really mean. Someone who knows that test automation isn’t just about regression or Selenium.
