About Run An Empire
Run An Empire is a location based mobile game that encourages people to get active. Players capture territory in the real world by moving through it - whether cycling, running or walking. They are challenged to build the greatest empire in their neighbourhood and lead their people from the dawn of time into the space age. The current iteration has been live in soft launch since October 2019 and is showing positive trends in early retention and conversion. 

Background on the Role
We’re hiring for someone excited about architecting a game server for growth. You will be working on all aspects of our backend with a focus on delivering new features. The game client is written in Unity on top of an AWS Lambda built in Node.js.  Ideally you are experienced with AWS, Node.js and familiar with Unity development.

Core Activities 

  • Working with the product and game design team to build new features.
  • Maintaining and developing our serverless backend system.
  • Implementing and maintaining partner services such as ad networks, analytics and fitness app integrations. 
  • Writing client code in C# to integrate with the backend.
  • Management of hosting environment, including database administration and scaling the application to support load changes.
  • Ensuring a high level of code quality.

 Desired Skills

  • AWS (RDS, Lambda, API Gateway) and the Serverless framework.
  • An understanding of mobile development, ideally using Unity3D.
  • Experienced with Node.js.
  • Understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Some knowledge of  MySQL or other flavours of SQL.
  • Experience of having worked in an SCRUM team or agile environment

They support 43 home office police forces and 3 national law enforcement agencies and provides learning management, asset management and reporting capabilities for the police forces.

 

What you will be doing:

As part of the role you will develop and maintain the automated test framework of my client’s RESTful platform and associated web interfaces and systems. You will apply, design and develop automated testing strategies as well as analyze and verify the best automated and manual test approaches. You will also execute acceptance, integration, installation and system testing and be involved in product design to guarantee adherence of test coverage for meeting end user requirements.

 

Ideally, your skills will include:

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in testing Java based applications and web services
  • Excellence in the construction and maintenance of automated test frameworks
  • Good understanding of automated UI testing tools and techniques e.g. Selenium
  • Practical knowledge of TDD & BDD techniques

Your role
As a practitioner in Data & Analytics Modernisation, you are responsible for delivering Data On AWS Cloud projects. My client has over 300 sources and a rapidly growing book of work. We are utilising the latest technologies to solve business problems and deliver value and truly unique insights. They are looking for Data Engineers that will work on the collecting, storing, processing, and analysing of large sets of data.

The primary focus will be on choosing optimal solutions to use for these purposes, then maintaining, implementing, and monitoring them. You will also be responsible for integrating them with the architecture used across the company and to help build out some core services that power Machine Learning and analytics systems.

Key Responsibilities: Data Engineer:

* Ability to process and rationalize structured data, message data and semi/unstructured data and ability to integrate multiple large data sources and databases into one system

* Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles and of the fundamental design principles behind a scalable application

* Strong knowledge of the Big Data eco system, experience with Hortonworks/Cloudera platforms

* Practical experience in using HDFS

* Practical expertise in developing applications and using querying tools on top of Hive, Spark (PySpark)

* Strong Scala skills

* Experience in Python, particularly the Anaconda environment and Python based ML model deployment

* Experience of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (Jenkins/Hudson/Ansible)
