About The Team

Financial Decisions and Analysis (FDnA) is the modelling and analytics Centre of Excellence within PwC Deals, and one of PwC’s highest growth teams. We focus on the application of leading edge modelling and analytical techniques to help clients make good decisions and solve problems. We work on some of the most high profile deals in the market, across a wide range of clients and sectors.

The PwC Deals team comprises our Transaction Services, Corporate Finance and Restructuring Service offerings. We support private equity firms, corporate clients and lenders through mergers, acquisitions, disposals and restructurings.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Manager to join our high performing team, with a specific focus on value creation projects in a post deal environment, but with significant opportunities to support across our other offerings. We are looking for someone with a commercial mindset who can quickly get to the crux of business issues and deliver commercially “game changing” insight to our clients, enhancing value through compelling analysis.

The successful candidate will have a track record of structuring, leading and delivering complex financial modelling and/or analytics driven assignments to clients in a professional services environment.

What we do

Every assignment is different, but we broadly define our offering under the key headings

  • Deal Modelling - increasing confidence in the deal by developing operational, financial and LBO models or by providing independent model assurance for some of the largest transactions and restructurings in the marketplace;
  • Deal Analytics - providing quantitative insights in the deal process e.g. into customer behaviours, sales and marketing effectiveness, costs to serve and product profitability;
  • Post Deal - driving performance transparency (cash forecasting, strategic planning, and reporting) and value creation to support the investment thesis through a technology enabled approach e.g. margin optimisation, strategic options analysis and operational effectiveness.

About the Role

As a Senior Manager, you will be supporting a broad range of assignments, stretching yourself across many different industry sectors and engaging directly with the senior management team and stakeholders of our clients.

Your first assignment may be working with senior management of leading PE backed or FTSE listed businesses to

  • Enable management to make better quality decisions, more quickly, by bringing together financial and operational data together into a dynamic board reporting pack, hosted using a visualisation tool*;
  • Bring clarity to pricing, discounting or salesforce effectiveness within a business;
  • Drive value creation, finding opportunities to rationalize and cut costs, or white space to increase sales and grow the clients top line performance;
  • Embed an end to end automated and actionable board reporting dashboard using an appropriate cloud platform and visualisation tool*;
  • Perform a cost to serve exercise, using allocation drivers and operational KPIs to highlight which services or products are most/least costly;
  • Understand the performance of different customers and products by applying techniques such as cohort analysis and clustering;
  • Bring together advanced analytics and machine learning software to drive better decision making.

*Visualistion tools such as Power BI or Tableau, cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure and ETL tool such as Alteryx ot SQL

Your responsibilities will include but may not be limited to

  • Leading multidisciplinary teams directly with our clients to use data analysis, modelling and visualisation to support a businesses in their post deal value creation activities;
  • Bringing structure and clarity to complex problems and business scenarios, reducing ambiguity as the project progresses and finding on-sell opportunities to expand the scope of the project;
  • Clear and concise communication of complex concepts and their business benefits to senior management and stakeholders (both internally and externally) from a range of backgrounds and business areas to help clients make robust, evidence based decisions;
  • Connecting the dots from disparate information streams (e.g. extracts from client system, management reports, contracts) and turning them into structured data that can be analysed as part of a Deal or post deal value creation project to provide greater insight to our clients;
  • Creating reports and presentations and communicating our findings to clients and their stakeholders.
  • Establish effective working relationships directly with both current and prospective clients
  • Navigate the complex senior management and private equity relationships to steer and influence the direction of a project;
  • Contribute to the development of your own and team's technical acumen;
  • Lead business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new/existing clients;

Essential skills & experience

To be successful in this role, you will also need to demonstrate the following

  • Qualified ACA/ACCA or equivalent;
  • Strong track record of delivering financial modelling and/ or analytics solutions to clients in a professional services environment;
  • Exceptional analytical and technical aptitude, possess both financial and commercial acumen and enjoy problem solving to understand the drivers of a business, analyse their data and use this to provide insight and advice to our clients;
  • Experience managing and coaching teams of varying sizes as part of client project delivery;
  • Proven track record of business development, proactively identifying sales opportunities and successfully converting these into deliverable projects;
  • Exceptional analytical and technical aptitude, possess both financial and commercial acumen and enjoy problem solving to understand the drivers of a business, analyse their data and use this to provide insight and advice to our clients;
  • The ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, self-review your work and produce deliverables of a high quality under tight client deadlines in time pressured environments;
  • Passion for innovation, technology and new tools, and applying and developing yourself to new areas (e.g. quickly getting up to speed with tools, analytical approaches and business challenges);
  • The ability to build collaborative working relationships at all levels, establishing credibility both internally and externally;

Essential technical skills

  • Experience with assisting business development activities through working on bids and proposal responses;
  • Experience in developing deliverables in visualisation tools, such as Tableau or PowerBI;
  • Experience with data structuring and use of related software such as Alteryx or SQL
  • Experience with financial modelling tools such as Excel or Anaplan
  • Evidence of understanding of big data platforms and advanced analytics (Eg Azure, AWS, DataRobot, Python)

PwC Senior Associates in the Digital Forensics & eDiscovery team have experience of helping clients in crisis. They apply cutting edge techniques to solve complex problems and apply smart data-driven solutions to our client’s issues. As part of our team, you could be detecting fraud, insider trading or employee misconduct, or working alongside lawyers on litigations and regulatory matters.

We are ready to respond to crisis events all over the world. We specialise in forensically capturing and understanding huge volumes of unstructured data such as e-mails, Office documents and instant chat messages which can be collected from computers, servers, the Cloud and smartphones or tablets. We rely on these data sources to answer questions like who spoke to whom? How well did these people know each other? What did a person know, and when?

You will work on multiple concurrent and high profile projects and work alongside recognised industry specialists in computer forensics, data analytics, information management, electronic discovery, and disclosure. You will develop your network and build strong relationships with clients and senior members of the team.

In the UK alone we have more than 65 technology practitioners working from dedicated secure forensic laboratories in Belfast, Birmingham, Leeds and London.

PwC UK is also home to one of three PwC & Google Innovation Labs. Along with New York and Sydney, we are now acknowledged as a global location where organisations can access the PwC and Google collaborative experience to co-create solutions to their digital and business challenges.

About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for

  • Leading the data scoping and capture parts of engagements, utilising your experience, applying best practice methodology and working directly with clients, their IT contacts / teams and third parties as necessary.
  • Completing the necessary documentation to the appropriate standards.
  • Updating and liaising with more senior team members appropriately.
  • Coaching junior team members on data acquisition tools and techniques.
  • Assisting with evidence and lab management.
  • Remaining abreast of the latest developments affecting our work and researching and testing new tools and techniques.

Once a member of the Digital Forensics & eDiscovery team, you will also gain exposure to, and receive training in, other aspects of the EDRM such as data processing in Nuix, and data review in tools such as Relativity and Brainspace.

Requirements

If you are naturally inquisitive, confident in unexpected situations and enjoy solving problems, we would be interested in talking to you. Candidates should also be prepared to travel, as many of our opportunities will require team members to work at client sites across the UK or overseas. You will need

  • A 2.1 degree or above in a Technology related discipline e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Maths, Physics, Computer Forensics or Artificial Intelligence, or demonstrate that you have relevant work experience.
  • Strong logical reasoning, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • To be technically minded, with knowledge of PC hardware (e.g. components, networks) and software (e.g. various operating systems).

In addition to the above, you will also need to have relevant work experience in Computer Forensics or eDiscovery, which could include experience of a number of the following

  • Performing data scoping exercises to work with clients and their IT teams to discover and document the data landscape.
  • Imaging desktop and laptop computers using one or more data collection tools, e.g. EnCase, FTK, and X-Ways, or using live imaging tools and techniques.
  • Extraction of data from Cloud-based systems such as Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft Office 365, or Google Mail.
  • Imaging servers, virtual servers, RAID arrays, NAS devices.
  • Imaging mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
  • Backup systems, including tape, virtual tape and virtual server backups.
  • The eDiscovery process and in particular the skills to consult with clients on the data collection stage of the EDRM life cycle.
  • Data query and programming languages, such as SQL, C#, VBA and/or Python.

Desirable
