Summary of the role:

The successful candidate will be recognised as a decision maker and leader in terms of DevOps activities. Working across mixed-experienced teams, you will be expected to bring your own perspective to the role and wider software development.  You’ll be required to hit the ground running, applying your existing skills and experience to interpret the needs of the teams.

You will be involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle and contribute to the design, build and deploy solutions within multi-discipline teams, working on a variety of technologies from Oracle SOA integration and Oracle BPM through to standalone Java web apps and complex back-end component development.

As a DevOps Engineer you will be working within an exciting dynamic driven team who will guide and support the vision responsible for innovative solutions, working with up to date technologies via automation and transition of code throughout the delivery life cycle.

You will demonstrate the ability to perform a range of complex and non-routine work under the general direction from your manager. You will engage and work closely with other technical teams in developing and deploying code using a continuous integration/delivery pipeline enabling the rapid delivery to live of new and enhanced solutions and their ongoing support and maintenance.

Delivering automated software components that form part of a Dev Ops toolchain. Transforming technical requirements into DevOps processes. Building complex stories without additional support and managing live test environments. Identifying and resolving issues preventing delivery.

Has a basic awareness of the role of software testing in the development lifecycle. Takes a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills. Has a good understanding of the business processes which the application(s) support, and a good knowledge of the software involved. Has sound knowledge of information systems development processes or networks or other skill areas which are relevant to the role and the applications to be supported.

Responsibilities include:

? Design and configuration of enterprise level software designed for real time monitoring.

? Design and configuration of customised dashboards for real time monitoring.

? Configure and administer git source code repositories

? Create and maintain infrastructure as code using Puppet

? Configure and understand cloud computing technologies

? Seek opportunities to grow technology and best practice knowledge and experience

? Proactively make recommendations i.e. Tooling, monitoring, based on development methodologies

? Contribute technical knowledge to System Software Roadmaps

? Design core scripts to automate maintenance and alerting tasks 

? Agile methodologies are understood, embedded and sustained

? Pilot and implement new and emerging DevOps technologies

? Provide advice/training/knowledge transfer

? Highlight/escalate issues as appropriate 

? Provide support for the Live systems

? Working with 3rd party vendors as part of project delivery

Skills and Knowledge Required;

This includes recognising the potential for automation of processes, determining costs and benefits of new approaches and managing change or assisting implementation where needed.

4. Have an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services. Maintains the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Design, implement and operate controls and management strategies to allow this.

5. Understand key principles of modern standards approach and how they apply to the work they are undertaking and will apply under guidance.Use a modern standards approach throughout automation and testing.

6. Collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications and uses these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programmes or scripts of medium to high complexity, using the right standards and tools. Use agreed security standards and specifications to design, create, test and document new or amended software.

7. See prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others. Establishes design patterns and iterates them. Knows a variety of methods of prototyping and chooses the most appropriate ones. Able to apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design workable prototypes, both programmes and physical outputs. Understand parameters, restrictions and synergies.

8. Identify, locate and competently fixes faults and maintains and supports services.

9. Build and test simple interfaces between systems, or can work on more complex integration as part of a wider team. Integrates and tests components, systems and their interfaces to create operational services.

10. Translate logical designs into physical designs. Produce detailed designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate. Design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity and meaningful impact. Works with well-understood technology and identifies appropriate patterns. Create the specification and design of systems to meet defined business needs. SFIA - Programming/Software Development - Level 3

Designs, codes, tests, corrects, and documents moderately complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools. Collaborates in reviews of specifications, with others as appropriate.

SFIA - Testing - Level 3

Reviews requirements and specifications, and defines test conditions. Designs test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes. Analyses and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work.

SFIA - Application Support - Level 3

Identifies and resolves issues with applications, following agreed procedures. Uses application management software and tools to collect agreed performance statistics. Carries out agreed applications maintenance tasks.

  • Experience with continuous build, automated deployment, testing and integration methodology and tooling experience i.e.:  (Jenkins//Maven/Nexus/Ansible or similar)

They have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience to be based at their Head Office in Nottingham;

The ideal candidates’ responsibilities:

  • Excellent experience of the full software lifecycle
  • Can understand and solve complex problems
  • Naturally flexible in approach
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work on your own and under pressure

The technical skillset for the role will include:

Required:

  • C++;
  • Excellent OOAD skills;
  • Linux;
  • Secure programming techniques;
  • Good understanding of Internet standards and protocols.

Desirable:

  • C++11 standard (and onwards);
  • PHP;
  • Boost libraries, preferably asio;
  • Scripting Languages for example Python or Bash;
  • SE Linux;
  • CMake;
  • UML Modelling;
  • Unit Testing;
  • Continuous Integration;
  • Virtualisation technologies such as VMWare, Docker, AWS;
  • Agile Techniques;
  • Low level Network programming.

  • Mondays to Thursdays 9.00am - 5.30pm, Fridays 9.00am - 5.00pm
