We are looking for a python backend developer who has a passion for building great products with solid engineering practices using the latest technologies.


You would also be working on technical tasks to improve our backend application architecture for performance, scalability and robustness while making use of the latest technologies, reducing complexity and making development easier. You will be working alongside other developers on one of our products.


A successful candidate will need to be organised, motivated and get things done. Want to work in a startup environment, doing a bit of everything and taking ownership of what he/she will be working on.


 


Responsibilities:



  • Implement RestFull API’s and business logic

  • Architecture redesign

  • Help lock down the technology stack from end to end

  • Work within a fast paced environment

  • Use REST to implement API integrations with other SaaS platforms

Nice to have:



  • Experience with datastore

As part of our digital transformation, Howdens Joinery are recruiting a DevOps Engineer to join us in our office in Northampton in Brackmills Industrial Estate.  At the end of 2020, this role will be moving to our new and purpose-built offices in Raunds, Northamptonshire. 

Working as part of the System Team you will design, develop, test and deploy to improve collaboration and productivity of our development teams by automating infrastructure, automating workflows and continuously measuring and improving application performance. 

As a DevOps Engineer you will bring your previous experience, best practice and a collaborative attitude to help drive DevOps initiatives.  You will also be accountable for the creation, maintenance and deployment of secure, highly available, fault tolerant systems at scale via on-premise and cloud-native architectures for development, testing and production environments. 

As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll possess a keen mind for solving tough problems, able to understand complex concepts and be an excellent communicator as you’ll need to partner and work effectively with the IT Digital Solutions and software delivery teams.  There is a great opportunity for a high performer with a strong desire to implement change, growth, and maturity, within a department that’s fast-paced, dynamic, and quickly growing in all areas.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Disciplined programmer with understanding of test-driven development and clean code principles with experience in languages such as Java and .Net C#
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and Configuration management tools e.g. Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Azure.
  • Practical experience with containerization and clustering technologies i.e. Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Experience of CI/CD Implementations i.e. Azure DevOps, Jenkins
  • Experience of building automated CI/CD pipelines with tools such as; SonarQube, Fortify, Selenium, etc.
  • High Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Bash, PowerShell, Python and JavaScript.
  • Experience of monitoring and supporting deployed systems, infrastructure and Azure Cloud components through the use tools such as AppDynamics.
  • Understanding of monitoring tools (Pagerduty, CloudWatch, Datadog, Sentry,etc)
  • Fluency in Azure CLI and Azure Cloud Shell/Azure Power Shell
  • Solid understanding of Cloud; including security, cloud fault tolerant solutions and resilience.
