SQL Server DBA

Dunfermline

Permanent

Circa GBP37,000

The client, a Global supplier of Real Time automation and management tools to the energy industry, have had a fantastic couple of years of company growth and success, and are now looking to expand their team across UK sites.

With an increased requirement for headcount, and a number of internal moves, an opportunity has opened up for an ambitious SQL DBA. Given the relatively small size of the team in the Dunfermline office, there is a requirement for the successful candidate to take on a number of tasks, which you may not have always had exposure to. As well as supporting and developing the SQL estate, you will also be required to support release and environment management.

You will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best, and will be joining in the early stages of an on-prem to Azure migration - so expect extensive exposure to cloud environments, and automation tools.

As the successful applicant, you will have experience in the following:

  • MS SQL Database administration
  • SSRS & SSIS
  • T-SQL
  • Database migration, replication, tuning, etc

It would also be highly beneficial if you had experience in the following:

  • Powershell or other Scripting languages
  • Azure
  • Release Management
  • Environment Management

As the perfectly suited candidate, you will have 3+ years of experience as a DBA, ideally with some cloud exposure, and be able to hit the ground running with the standard DBA tasks. Beyond that, you will have an aptitude for learning, and taking on a lot of new information, and implementing that in real world scenarios.

You will be rewarded with a generous salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business.

To apply, please submit a CV via the relevant links, and give Craig a call.

Who we're looking for
A data leader who has come through the ranks of a career in technology data roles, both technical and now strategic. You will have written SQL, worked on operational database systems, implemented data warehouses and understand reporting, MI, governance and Datamodelling and the importance of MDM, data accuracy, fidelity and lineage. For the last decade, you will have embraced modern data technology and techniques and will now be a fully rounded data evangelist who is as credible to an operationally focused finance team as they are to data scientist. You will understand cloud native data technologies and platforms, data virtualisation and self-service orientated data principles. You will fundamentally understand that Schroders greatest data strengths simultaneously lie in its ability to manage its clients' money with rock solid integrity whilst at the same time fuelling the data science to generate the IP which makes it a global leader in investment management.

About Schroders
We're a global investment manager. We help institutions, intermediaries and individuals around the world invest money to meet their goals, fulfil their ambitions, and prepare for the future.

We have around 5,000 people on six continents. And we've been around for over 200 years, but keep adapting as society and technology changes. What doesn't change is our commitment to helping our clients, and society, prosper.

Technology at Schroders
There's a huge amount of change going on at Schroders. Technology's shaping our business more and more, so there are many opportunities waiting to be grabbed. And because we're a big financial player, we can put hefty backing behind good ideas.

We're a serious business - we have enormous responsibilities to our clients and shareholders. But just because we're suited and booted, that doesn't make us stuffy; our tech teams are friendlier and more informal than you might expect.

The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients, in the heart of the UK's financial centre. We offer flexible working appropriate for a client solutions focussed role and facilities that include an onsite gym (a good one at that!), doctors, dentist, restaurant, coffee shop and garden balconies.

The team
You'll be part of the Enterprise Technology leadership team working closely with all technology teams across the business. Enterprise Technology leads our architecture, cloud, data, engineering and agile functions so you will join the team who are the most focused on how we move Schroders technology and technology teams forwards.

What you'll do
Schroders is a massive data processing machine. We monitor the world's stock markets alongside macro and micro economic data to make tens of thousands of investment decisions daily. We have significant data science and research capabilities alongside continual regulatory and commercial requirements for data accuracy and excellence in all we do. The Head of Enterprise data is responsible for the development, build and execution of the Groups Enterprise Data strategy. Working with our colleagues in our Data Science, QEP, Group Technology, Investment, Distribution and Product teams you will bring together all data requirements both operational and analytical to help define the data vision and path for Schroder's over the next 5 years.

As Head of Enterprise Data you'll be leading technical direction as well as standards, governance and best practices. You'll be a source of technical expertise and will participate in strategic conversations with our engineering and data science groups alongside our business users.

You'll lead a small central team with responsibility for Datamodelling and data quality alongside our overall group data architecture.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
Experience working in a technical leadership and strategy role providing data solutions
Proven ability in developing a visionary data solution
The ability to operate at all levels within the organisation (Business, Operations and IT) to maintain and explain the Enterprise Logical Data Model (LDM) which represents all organization data (Key Data Elements, entities, attributes and relationships) together with a suitable business definition
Experience with Cloud, Azure or AWS
Solid interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to manage in a dynamic and global environment
A solid background in the fields of data integrity, data governance, data processing, data warehousing and Business Intelligence

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline
Strong technical skills in understanding and deploying enterprise level application systems that are scalable and complex
Proven experience with modern data techniques using cloud technologies
Python and R development, Kafka and Spark, ML/DL and AI
Substantial expertise in technologies used in data streaming, Real Time processing, distributed computing, cloud computing, reporting, visualisation, analytics, machine learning and data warehousing
Understanding of recent practices including Agile methods, Continuous Delivery, DevOps, Artificial intelligence & Security
Experience of transformation and change programs across a large technology organization

What you'll be like
You'll really enjoy working in teams with many different people
A coach and sounding board who's approachable and empathetic
Able to stand your ground without being confrontational
Down-to-earth, honest, and straightforward
A really good communicator, both in speech and writing
