Orion Group Life Sciences have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer/Scientist for our Multinational Medical Devices client based in the Cork area on an initial 12-month contract.


Job Purpose

The Data Engineer / Scientist will be responsible for manufacturing data development and management on several projects related to process digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence. This will require technical knowledge in the areas of industrial sensors, sensor integration in manufacturing equipment, and machine learning / data analytics; in-depth knowledge of manufacturing design protocols a plus.

  • Collaborating to define: Functional and design specifications
  • Technical Milestones/Areas of expertise to be developed
    -Choice of Critical Components, Physical Quantities to observe and sensors to install
    -Data Acquisition, Data Manipulation

-Condition Monitoring & Health Assessment, Prognosis

-Decision Support, Algorithm development (data/mining/analytics/machine learning)
-Presentation (Alerting/Action Tracking/ Reporting)

  • Knowledge Transfer and Project management
  • Reporting/publishing research/ aligning with output requirements of the funding
  • Building a working demonstrator for industrial use
  • To contribute to the presentation of project reports
  • To provide guidance to other staff in own specialist area
  • To take part in knowledge-transfer activities, including collaborative meetings with other research groups
  • To maintain knowledge and understanding within the field/specialty, transforming and applying knowledge acquired from project to research
  • Work with all relevant project teams to deliver project on time and on budget with the required quality level
  • Ensure compliance with company's procedures, cGMP, recognized quality standards and regulatory expectation
  • To develop sensing and advanced analytics solutions for the client

  • Design of Experiment (DoE): To capture physics of fault modes and for health monitoring (e.g. thermal, electrical, mechanical, chemical, humidity, biological, optical, magnetic etc.)
  • Obtain (Hardware) System, set up DAQ, and plan to mount sensors
  • Set up data initial capture experiment, with data check (e.g. sensor calibration, Data Acquisition, Pre-processing, and storage mechanisms)
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Condition Monitoring & Health Assessment, Feature Extraction, Feature selection and reduction
  • Typically Kernel Principle Component Analysis (PCA) or ISOMAP
  • Construction of health indicators, General Data Based Modelling, Machine Learning
  • Deep learning, including Convolutional Neural Networks, generative adversarial networks
  • Bayesian Networks, Markov modes etc.
  • Stochastic, State space and filtering models
  • Kalman, Particle filters
  • Regression tools
  • Data Visualising (Plotting RUL: Remaining Useful Life)
  • Presentation (Alerting/Action Tracking/ Reporting)

Desired Experience and Background of the successful candidate

  • BSc in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics
  • 2 years' experience working in manufacturing industry
  • 1-year experience in a research environment
  • Knowledge of advanced analytics and predictive maintenance
  • Strong grasp of algorithms and data structures
  • Experience with extracting, cleansing, analysing and presenting data
  • Experience with implementing cloud-based distributed systems and microservices
  • Have an in depth understanding of machine learning, data mining, multivariate statistical analysis, mathematical modelling and operation research
  • Experience with Python
  • Desirable: PhD or Research Masters in an engineering/science discipline
  • Experience in participating in European funded projects
  • Process Excellence - Six Sigma
  • Experience with TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, OpenCV, MS Azure
  • Microsoft SQL server

You’ll be responsible for designing and building both supervised and unsupervised learning technologies to parse objects and determine their state as far as it is relevant to driving decisions. States might include object classifications, traffic signal states, orientations, wheel angles and human actions.

What will you do?

As a Frontend Software Engineer, you’ll be a vital member of the Platform Team, deploying our self-driving tech stack both onto our fleet of vehicles and into cloud-based simulation environments. We are constantly testing the latest versions of software, as well as performing data collection missions in London and elsewhere. We index and annotate vast quantities of data from real-world missions, and use this together with simulation to improve the capability and safety levels of our stack.

You’ll develop tools to launch, run and monitor our autonomous driving stack, working closely with many different teams across the company from sensors, computer vision and machine learning to deliver features and improve performance.

Requirements

About You:

  • You’re fluent in Javascript, Python and shell scripting
  • You have built and delivered projects with React
  • You have knowledge of current software engineering best practices and methodologies.

Summary of Role

As a Data Scientist you will use your passion for data and analytics to deliver a variety of niche market driven insights across the FMG business units.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders to define the business problems they are trying to solve. From there you will use your experience with a variety of methodologies, including Python scripting, machine learning and AI, to craft solutions that will drive real business outcomes.

Working within the established team you will come in as the department lead, acting as the main point of call for senior stakeholders, whilst also working as a mentor to the more junior members of the team and ensuring they get the support they need.

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with product owners and developers to identify, collect, and transform data for research and analysis

  • Understand the day-to-day issues that our business faces, which can be better understood with data

  • Develop predictive models, applying analytics and machine learning algorithms to support business decisions

Location 

We are currently based in Sayers Common, but will be relocating to Central Brighton within the next 12 months. 

Summary of Role

As a Data Scientist you will use your passion for data and analytics to deliver a variety of niche market driven insights across the FMG business units.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders to define the business problems they are trying to solve. From there you will use your experience with a variety of methodologies, including Python scripting, machine learning and AI, to craft solutions that will drive real business outcomes.

Working within the established team you will come in as the department lead, acting as the main point of call for senior stakeholders, whilst also working as a mentor to the more junior members of the team and ensuring they get the support they need.

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with product owners and developers to identify, collect, and transform data for research and analysis

  • Understand the day-to-day issues that our business faces, which can be better understood with data

  • Develop predictive models, applying analytics and machine learning algorithms to support business decisions

  • Demonstrate experience in developing Deep Learning and other sophisticated models, leveraging complex unstructured data

  • Run optimisations to achieve commercial objectives and spot market opportunities
