Job Title: Senior Java Developer
Location: Radbroke, Knutsford


Barclays UK Tech function, has a Clearing Hub division which is the corner stone of clearing by image. This is an initiative to allow images of cheques to be a legal instrument for paying people. This removes the need for paper to be transported by secure vehicles on the road between branches and the central clearing centre. A further benefit in using mobile image capture is to allow customers a new channel for recording cheque payments.


As a Senior Java Developer, you will contribute to the mobile image clearing project by writing code to specification for multiple applications / products during the build phase of the SDLC. You will also be seen as a lead in this function, so having good teamwork skills and an eye for mentorship would be brilliant.


What will you be doing?


• Write and test code thoroughly and liaise with business users to ensure delivery is fit fur purpose
• Develop technical understanding of a component or sub-component within an application /product, providing support for technical queries, live incidents and problems
• Ensure technical integrity and quality of application is maintained across their lifetime
• Responsible for your own work right through from deployment to customer acceptance
• Help impact assess business requested change to the Clearing Hub Platform
• Provide technical guidance and support to multiple offshore technical delivery teams on the projects.


What we’re looking for:


• Proven track record coding in Java
• Exposure coding in Oracle PL-SQL
• Jira / Confluence or BitBucket (or other code repository technologies) exposure
• Architecture knowledge with Micro Services.

Application Hosting is the organization which runs, builds and maintains the Bank's middleware IT infrastructure. The AVP role is for the Application Hosting Infrastructure Specialist who is responsible for delivering middleware components within projects, maintaining the Application Hosting infrastructure and providing service support in middleware operations.


As an Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be delivering infrastructure engineering including maintenance and servicing technologies for the Application Hosting Estate.

Preparing documentation that explains the technical solution clearly, to various stakeholders who may have different level of technical skills
Supporting Junior Team members on advising and recommending complex technical solutions focusing on requirements and planning to meet client needs
Accountable for individual results, and for the impact of the individual results on the wider Application Hosting Team
Maintaining or enhancing systems infrastructure components and services to ensure that infrastructure is in vendor supported and standards compliant state
Reacting quickly and as necessary to systems errors and service problems to minimize downtime and restore service
Attending incident resolution calls and be able to clearly articulate basic technical issues 
Identifying of root cause and implementation of permanent fix

Strong understanding of Application Hosting Platforms (ie JBoss, Tomcat or Apache)
Understanding of IBM Application Hosting Platforms (Websphere Application Server)

SSL encryption and certificate management
Shell scripting

The group (located across London, New York, Houston, Buenos Aires and Mumbai) is responsible for the production, orchestration, capture and feeding of Risk and PNL data to various aggregators across the CIB for T+1 analysis by the Commodities, Currencies and Emerging Markets business performing a critical control function in today’s highly regulated environment. In addition to this the group is responsible for the build out of the reporting and core business functionality in the Risk Central platform, the target state aggregation and reporting platform for Risk and PNL across the Corporate Investment Bank.

Using technologies like Python, Scala, Hadoop, Kafka and Spark, part of the teams remit is building a resilient high-capacity platform supporting the firm’s business and regulatory agenda. On a typical day, billions of rows of data are fed to the system from both end of day batches and real-time calculators. A modern application stack is being developed to serve the needs of heterogeneous clients across the Investment Bank and Risk & Finance.

The role requires full-stack development and strong software fundamentals with the ideal candidate involved in all aspects of the Risk Central build out. This includes writing internal and external APIs, writing code that persists and aggregates data, and building services and other tools that are critical in enterprise grade mission critical system.

 

The successful candidate will be able to handle the full pipeline of the system, from sourcing data from the front office systems, building and enhancing data publishers, persisting and managing the landed data through to reporting results to downstream clients. In order to accomplish this, the developer will have familiarity of all technologies used in the project and have a basic understanding of all involved workflows.

Required skills:

Ability to think analytically and quickly pick up new technical concepts.

Expertise with functional or object orientated languages.

Expertise in Python is a plus.

Fluent English is required.

Strong hold in Data Structures and Algorithm

God experience in Django framework.

Hands on experience using numpy and pandas

Strong experience in building microservices and web API

Proficient in Apache Spark/PySpark.

Overseeing 4 locations, the role will design and implement IT solutions to solve business issues and improve business processes in a rapidly changing environment, within Continental rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop network solutions to support business objectives and IT strategy.
  • Develop and maintain effective network security systems.
  • Provide users with technical support to ensure the effective and timely resolution of network / hardware deficiencies and the implementations of improvement actions.
  • Keep tacit knowledge with new innovations, helping to ensure the company’s IT infrastructure is on a competitive level, by implementing streamlined process and optimized tools.
  • Coordinate activities associated with purchase and installation of software and hardware, whilst ensuring license compliance.

Experience, Qualifications & Capabilities

  • A background in 2nd/3rd line administration in mixed Windows/Linux environment
  • Experience working in a multi-site network environment
  • The ability to work both helpdesk and project-led manner to agreed SLAs.
  • Excellent communication skills across different teams, Including both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Capable of working Independently and as part of a team without direct supervision.
  • Experience of working with colleagues in other countries.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving and documentation.
  • Able to work calmly under pressure.
  • Knowledge of the following products and technologies advantageous:- Windows server 2008-2016, Windows 7/10, Active Directory, AWS - Cloud, VMare, SAN/NAS, VOIP, Network skills - TCP/IP/DHCP/DNS, Firewall basics, LANDesk basics, Scripting skills - Powershell, Cisco, Web Servers IIS / Apache, Databases - MS SDQL/MySQL, Computer hardware or programming knowledge
