About Us

We are a rapidly-progressing legaltech start-up looking to transform the legal sector by using machine learning to improve the efficiencies of large international law firms in a market of over £30bn.

We are seeking a self-starter to help us on that journey.

The platform reads tens of millions of data points linked to professional services data and transforms this unstructured data into powerful visualisations and insights that dramatically increase the new business generation potential of its customer law firms.

The company has significant traction from a number of target customers.

The company has committed and unconditional funding with at least 18 months of runway.

The CEO is a three-times serial entrepreneur who has successfully exited one business and still operates the remaining two profitably.  He has extensive industry contacts and vast experience in the target vertical having “been” the target market and then been its customer before going on to successfully sell to it, thereby boosting the future trajectory of the firm.

About you/the role

The successful candidate will work in a friendly and international environment based in one of London's top tech hubs close to Silicon Roundabout.

This is an entry-level position ideally suiting a candidate with outstanding academics, studying towards Masters, PhD level or above in a data science or closely-related discipline.  He/she will be looking for an opportunity to develop experience in machine learning in a highly-commercial environment using the latest tools.

He/she will be a self-starter willing to “roll their sleeves up” and who wants to help pioneer new technology in a “hot” vertical where the UK target market alone is over £30 billion.

Accordingly, the candidate will need to:

  • Be highly numerate with the ability to derive insights and visualisations from data
  • Work with large volumes of text data, and be able to apply standard techniques for preprocessing, wrangling, storage.
  • Be able to apply standard NLP techniques for Information Extraction
  • Have good communication skills in English
  • Have the ability to work independently to design and implement robust solutions

We are looking for the following core technical skills:

  • Python 3
  • Jupyter notebook experience
  • Experience of using data libraries including numpy, pandas, nltk
  • MongoDB or experience of NoSQL databases
  • Experience of data visualisation using tools such as matplotlib, seaborn or similar.

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • Scikit-learn
  • Experience of knowledge graphs and ontologies
  • Experience of NLP, in particular named entity recognition

We are a very early stage start up and the candidate will report directly to the CEO with the opportunity to grow into a more senior role with the attendant opportunities and economics.

You will need the right to work in the UK currently, but after an initial period visa sponsorship is available to the right candidate.

Compensation

Initially on a contract basis with a competitive day rate, this role will grow into a full time position with the attendant cash and equity compensation.

Application

As well as your CV, please provide a covering email explaining how your skills and experience match those specified. Please also explain why you would like to work for an early stage start-up in London.
