What you'll be doing

  • Proactive and/or reactive support of infrastructure components in line with agreed service level agreements.
  • To provide input to the Technical Services Manager in the overall development of technical plans.
  • Act as a technical consultant where appropriate, providing advice and guidance relating to their area of technical speciality.
  • Ensure that quality solutions are developed, tested, and delivered in line with current IS policies, standards and procedures, within timescales and to budget.
  • Monitor the performance of the infrastructure and carry out tuning exercises as appropriate to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify single points of failure and weaknesses within the infrastructure and identify options for resolution.
  • To provide input to the formation of the annual technology refresh programme.
  • Conduct problem analysis and liaise with external suppliers to ensure appropriate fixes are applied to all identified problems.
  • Ensure support documentation exists and is up to date for all infrastructure components.
  • Constantly look for opportunities to improve the level of support offered for the same cost, including evaluation of third party software and tools to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Understand your role in a disaster recovery scenario in accordance with the department's business continuity plans.
  • Undertake demonstrations and presentations and prepare reports as required.

What we're looking for

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of expertise and knowledge in their specific field or discipline.
  • Able to demonstrate considerable practical hands-on experience in a specific technical role, with exposure to a range of the key Technical skills required within a specific team within the End User Computing department.
  • Excellent at problem solving - design as well as trouble shooting.
  • Able to isolate and resolve performance problems in complex systems.
  • Able to recommend ways to support a departmental policy of Continuous Improvement looking to avoid and reduce incidents and problems.
  • Experience of working in an organisation using ITIL Service Management framework. ITIL qualification would be advantage.

Essential knowledge:

  • Application deployment and management technologies - App-V, SCCM, MSI, Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop
  • Vulnerability management technologies - SCCM, WSUS, Shavlik, GPO

Desirable knowledge:

  • Scripting & General Windows Server administration tools

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable hands on network experience is desired
  • Strong grasp of TCP/IP, routing, switching, cabling and internet protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of either Cisco, Juniper or Brocade hardware and software
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - you have a knack for figuring things out

  • Strong grasp of TCP/IP, routing, switching, cabling and internet protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of either Cisco, Juniper or Brocade hardware and software
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - you have a knack for figuring things out
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effortlessly, both verbally and in writing

You'll make the A list if you have:

  • Degree or diploma in network systems, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Good knowledge of Linux/Unix, VMware and Windows environments.
  • Certifications with Cisco and/or Juniper (CCNA/CCNP/JNCIA/JNCIS) or equivalent
  • Kick-ass firewall, VPN and/or load balancing skills
  • Multilingual Skill, especially French (Not essential)
