Software Design Engineer - West Yorkshire based - Excellent salary + benefits on offer

My West Yorkshire based client is currently looking to recruit a Software Design Engineer on a permanent basis.

In this role you will be creating robust and innovative embedded software in C# and C++.

Working collaboratively with a team that includes mechanical design engineers, electrical design engineers and other software engineers you will be working on projects that deliver the software to truly market leading products for the textile and clothing manufacturing sector.

You'll also be responsible for the following;

  • Experience with C/C++ (Ideally with embedded systems), C#, ASP.NET, Visual-Studio
  • Experience with STM32 or electronic system design a distinct advantage
  • Responsible for the development of efficient software solutions, from the initial concept, top-level design right through to test and production of new software.
  • Create storyboards and flow diagrams appropriate to the product
  • Has an interest in making software which is simple and intuitive to use
  • Development of a new Touchscreen embedded system (C, C++, GCC)
  • Maintain and grow our current range of C# WPF desktop applications
  • Produce the necessary production files for manufacture of new designs and design changes
  • Contribute to the formulation and upkeep of the NPD
  • Attend the PDC meetings when required by the Lead Software Engineer and contribute to the agenda item
  • Complete design changes in a timely manner when delegated by the Lead Software Engineer
  • Seek out advice from Service & Calibration, Technical, Production, Fitting and Sales when producing new designs and design changes
  • Give support to assembly department and external manufacturers when required
  • Give technical support to Service & Calibration when required and to other areas of the business
  • Contribute and be an active member of the Project Teams
  • In order to prevent harm to themselves and others, all employees will be responsible and accountable for working within Health & Safety legislation, instructions, procedures and practices as defined by the Company
  • To ensure that they are aware of and comply with the QA policy and procedures

The role of the Software Tester / QA Engineer will involve working within a predominately manual testing environment through the full testing lifecycle. The desktop software you would be working on is Microsoft .NET based and developed using C#. The main application is WPF based utilising an SQL Server database and you would be using Microsoft Test Centre, Azure Dev Ops and YouTrack.

You would be expected to:

  • Testing & quality assurance of company software products predominantly desktop applications but occasional mobile and web based as well
  • Pre & post release, including the recreation of software issues, documentation of issue and post fix testing.
  • Preparation of release notes.
  • Creation, maintenance and development of testing, scripts and procedures.
  • Creation and maintenance of user, support and installation documentation.
  • Liaising with Development team to progress any software issues found and reported.

The ideal candidate for this role will be working within a testing role at the moment and if possible have an industry recognised qualification within software testing.

You will have:

  • At least 2 years industry experience as software tester.
  • Experience of working within a manual environment but any experience within automation would be beneficial.
  • The ability to write test scripts / plans
  • Experience of testing software within a .Net environment would be highly beneficial.

As you will be working within a team environment and liaising with the development team then your communications skills, both written and verbal, must be very strong.

o Acting as a second in command to the DTL in all aspects

o The teams code quality measures, such as ensuring that adequate code reviews are being conducted, and that the team's technical standards (such as TDD) are being upheld.

o Providing support for the DTL in the day to day running of the team

o During absence, providing cover for the DTL in day to day running of the team

To be considered for this role, you'll need:

o At least 5 years' experience designing and building C# .NET applications

o Excellent knowledge and experience in design patterns and Object Orientated Design

o Good knowledge of relational database technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server

o Good experience with CI tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Azure Dev Ops

o Experience with implementing automated testing platforms, e.g. SpecFlow, and unit tests

o An Interest in programming best practices

o Experience of working with service orientation and related technologies (SOAP, WCF, REST, etc.)

o Experience of the Agile software development lifecycle and working knowledge of SCRUM

o Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git

o Basic understanding of Common Language Runtime (CLR), its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds

Additional Desirable Skills:

o WinForms and WPF (including MVVM) development

o Mobile web development (Cordova, AngularJS)
