The purpose of the Business Analyst will be:
- To work closely with the Project Manager, Development and QA Team Leads to develop solutions for clients
- To gather information by working with customers/users/SSP staff and translating the requirements into straightforward functional specifications, use cases and user stories
- To provide fee-earning consultancy and services relating to SSP software and services

Key Duties
- To undertake requirements capture and analysis using recognised tools and translate these into clear and concise business and project documents
- To identify solutions to business issues and articulate opportunities for improvement
- To support SSP customers during the implementation of bespoke software applications
- To conform to SSP consultancy and development standards, practices and methodologies, contributing to deliverables throughout the software lifecycle (e.g. customer proposals, GAP analysis, requirements definition and internal and external design)
- To participate in client implementation phases, performing familiarisation activities with customers
- To define acceptance criteria and participate in quality review activities (for example, Fagan inspection, Agile estimation, peer reviews etc.)
- To author system documentation and liaise with Development Teams as required
- To prepare accurate and timely effort estimates in respect to the specification process
- To contribute to the break/fix and defect management cycles, acting as a subject expert where appropriate

Experience & Requirements
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills; must be a confident and effective communicator – both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of the IFA (or General Insurance) industry, including processes, practices and legislature gained through direct experience
- Demonstrable aptitude for analysing business processes and software structures using a formal methodology
- A good understanding of structured data and relational database principles
- Demonstrable experience of process modelling using UML, BPMS etc.
- Experience of working to strict deadlines, both individually and as part of a team
- The ability to author data flow diagrams, entity relation diagrams, UML documents and user stories
- A clear understanding of the software development life cycle
- Willing to travel to other SSP sites and customer premises as required
- (Desirable) Have an understanding of ASP.NET web applications
- (Desirable) Understanding MVC structures
- (Desirable) Hands-on T-SQL skills, or other exposure to Microsoft SQL Server

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Database Administrator. In this role, the Database Administrator will have the opportunity to work in a varied and rapidly expanding technical environment, within a team that is always on the lookout for new methods, tools, technologies and proactive improvements. In return for your efforts the Database Administrator can expect to stay at the cutting edge of technology; All of our systems are hosted in Microsoft’s Azure public cloud using SQL 2008 & 2016 Clusters in a Windows Server 2012 environment. We are also in the process of planning the migration of our production systems to use Azure SQL.

You will receive continual technical training and also support for professional SQL certifications! There are added opportunities to cross train and certify in Microsoft Azure technologies too.

Database Administrator Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and support of large business critical customer facing SQL installations, using your solid knowledge of Microsoft Best Practice.
  • Monitoring and improving system and application performance (identifying problems, performance tuning and assisting with redesign work).
  • Capacity planning, including advising on architecture and hardware requirements.
  • Building and configuring new SQL clusters and databases within the customer facing and development
  • Creating synthesised or anonymised datasets.
  • Designing, testing and implementing new backup and disaster recovery techniques.
  • Maintaining compliance with ISO27001 and ISO22301 to protect the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of the databases.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in administering Microsoft SQL server databases (SQL Server 2008R2+).
  • Strong technical skills including most of the following: SSIS, DTS, SSRS, SSAS, Clustering, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Transact SQL, Database Modelling, Data Analysis, Data Security and Performance Tuning.
  • Any experience with Azure SQL databases would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to make a real contribution to the team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Experience of working in an ITIL based service management role would be highly desirable.
