Job Purpose

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Platform, Solution or Enterprise Architect who enjoys working in a Research and Development environment to both drive strategic thinking and engage in immediate architecture challenges to create a significant R&D capability within a large organisation from the ground up.

The role will be to initially establish the current business problems and derive a strategic platform and technology roadmap so as to drive innovation through R&D. The initial markets are Financial Services and Energy however,

  • Understanding and documenting the strategic business problem and use cases.
  • Owning the strategic architecture and roadmap.
  • Identify and evaluate current and future technologies that can be leveraged to drive both strategic and immediate agenda.
  • Evangelise and present strategic technologies and best practices to help spread acceptance within the delivery teams and executive management.
  • Engage with industrial and academic partners to drive the research agenda and delivery roadmap.
  • Own development of the Operate Services Platform.
  • Support development of POC’s and MVP.
  • Support development of vendor agnostic and proprietary software solutions.
  • Provide technology thought leadership.
  • Own and input as required programme and project plans.
  • Own and input as required to financial planning and budgetary management.

Who we are looking for

The individual needs to be someone with extensive experience, preferably having began their career as a Software Engineer and who has progressed through to a Senior Architect role with a broad range of application, cross platform and full stack technology experience.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in software engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience developing software applications.
  • Significant experience delivering software architectures.
  • Significant experience owning strategic platform architectures and roadmaps.
  • Experience understanding and translating business to technical requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge of established software development operating models and methodologies including agile, scrum, iterative and waterfall.
  • Knowledge of cloud development and operational environments.
  • Knowledge of integration architectures and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data and analytics architectures and technology.
  • Knowledge of workflow automation and robotic process automation tools.
  • Knowledge of Order to Cash and Service Assurance stacks.
  • Broad understanding of security architectures.
  • Evidence of programme management and budgetary planning.
  • Evidence of team management.

Desirable Criteria

  • Financial services and energy sector experience.
  • Deep knowledge of workflow automation and robotic process automation using vendor applications such as Decisions, Intapp, Fenergo and others.

Our technical team are the glue that holds us together and we urgently require a Java Developer with Java / TDD / BDD / JavaScript / Agile experience to continue our success. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Joining our organisation as a Java Developer, you will form part of a brand new team within the business and contribute to the redevelopment of an our existing platforms. You'll also work on high traffic web interfaces that process a huge amount of requests and be responsible for guiding other developers through the end to end software development lifecycle. You will use your experience in Java / TDD / BDD / JavaScript / Agile to produce technically focused code that meet deadlines and help to achieve the wider business aims.
We work with cutting-edge technologies, meaning you'll have the opportunity to learn AWS, Azure, Docker, JavaScript and more. Our technical teams follow Agile development practices and have a lot of autonomy. We offer a great work-life balance and operate a social environment.

Have you integrated products into 3rd party applications ?

If so I have a really interesting role with a global software company where you will be working on a number of software integration projects:

Your responsibilities will include:
·    Integrating their product into a large number of third-party applications
·    Leverage existing applications, customise and develop bespoke solutions
·    Take responsibility for designing and delivering a robust solution for each project
·    Involvement in requirements gathering and scoping sessions with the customer to agree the project deliverables
·    Collaborating with other members of the Integrations team to evolve the core framework
·    Using appropriate tools as required, such as Java, C#, C, Javascript, PowerShell, shell-scripts, etc.
·    Be involved in the entire life-cycle of the project including design, delivery and handover of the project
Your experience should include:
·    Programming experience in Java or C#
·    Ability to communicate well with people who have varying degrees of technical capability and be able to extract and articulate their requirements
·    Practical knowledge of at least one of the following database platforms; Oracle, SQL Server, with a strong knowledge of SQL
·    Sound problem-solving skills
·    Effective unit-testing and documentation skills
·    Ability to work under pressure and be able to context-switch between projects as required
