Web Developer (Python) | Making Tech Count!

Central Bristol - £33,000 - £46,000

We have been asked to help this amazing Bristol company build out a new team this year and I am absolutely buzzing to be working with them (I've wanted to for years!) Not only do they work on some very cool high profile projects, ones everyone would have heard and seen but they are just the nicest bunch of people with great values and ethics.

We are well underway building this team and looking for 2 web developers to join the Bristol hub! The Bristol office is filled with a diverse, highly technical development team, where everyone's input is valued. Their focus is on solving complex problems in the most efficient way possible in a collaborative environment.

Skills you'll need:

  • Their products are web-based and use Python (and occasionally Node) on the server, most often Django on Google App Engine (sometimes Firebase, AWS, or Azure).
  • They use a mix of relational and non-relational databases, and other cloud services.
  • They aim to strike a balance between leveraging existing strengths and exploring new tech.

In my opinion you'll be working with some of the most creative people in Bristol (I've seen there work - it's awesome!) You'll have loads of opportunities for growth and further leaning and work on different products. Get involved in worldwide talks and conferences and training courses.

They'll give you the opportunity to do your thing, so if you need/want to work from home occasionally then go for it. They also offer free lunch every day, the most insane snacks and pretty much any drink you can think of - including Fanta Lemon!
Other bits and bobs:

  • Headspace account
  • Unlimited holiday
  • Enhanced Pat and Maternity pay
  • Enhanced pension
  • On-site osteopath - get me there!!
  • Gym membership
  • A phone of your choice - up to £700
  • Life insurance
  • Plus more but I'm almost out of characters

Salary up to £46,000 based in Central Bristol.
I am planning to start arranging interviews asap. Please send your CV over asap to discuss :)

DevOps Engineer - AWS Lambda|Kubernetes|Terraform - Head Up the Function (EdTech)

Are you a DevOps engineer that feels like the education system is broken? Want to be part of the solution? Built the next generation of Education Technology to get students engaged with Learning? All whilst working with the later technologies like GCP, AWS and Kubernetes.

Their application is currently used by schools and colleges across the UK to help with engaging students with learning inside and outside of school through the use or educations games, quizzes and interesting learning material.

They have been established for many years but have recently received millions in funding and seen massive growth in the interest of the applications and are now looking for a DevOps engineer as they expand the use of their platform to also be a learning management portal to be used to guide students through their learning journey.

The DevOps engineer will come in to work with the systems administration team and developers to work on improving the scalability and availability of their application moving the application to Google Cloud and break down their application in docker based microservices - all whilst automating the way new features are to be deployed.

With many new features to be released and the expected increase in traffic as they scale globally this position is critical to be the business and will be a hands-on role for a keen DevOps Engineer to get to work with the latest and most interested tech: GCP, Docker, kubernetes, terraform.

What the successful DevOps Engineer will have:

  • Confident scaling infrastructure in the cloud: GCP, AWS, Azure
  • Confident building deployment pipelines: Jenkins, bamboo, teamcity
  • Have worked in an 'infrastructure as code' environment: terraform, ansible, puppet.
  • Comfortable working very closely with developers.

The company are an opensource house with the application having a JavaScript front end and Python backend but do not mind what background you come from.

This is a really great position for a DevOps Engineer with a long-term view into management working closely with the technical director to eventually move into a Head of Engineering type position owning the DevOps team.

Again, you do not need to be an expert in all the technologies mentioned but just a keen and enthusiastic engineer who loves working with new technologies and using technology to solve problems.
