Introduction

We are looking for a Manager who is solutions-focussed, skilled at building relationships, enjoys being at the heart of change, and who wants to be part of a cohesive, vibrant and growing team.

The role requires a Manager who has a practical, thorough and positive approach to problem solving, who is good with details and able to cope with pressure. You must be confident in liaising with individuals at all levels throughout the firm, enjoy acquiring new knowledge and be able to deliver difficult messages on occasion.

Previous high level knowledge of the independence rules would be beneficial but is not a requirement. Full training on these elements of the role will be provided.

Whilst prior independence knowledge is preferable, what is more important is that you have a willingness to learn a new technical area, a client service mentality, excellent coaching and communication skills and you want to join a growing and dynamic team that provides critical business support to the firm in a complex and changing regulatory environment.

The role in detail

Being at the heart of PwC

PwC's ambition to grow through acquisitions and development of new innovative ways to serve clients, mandatory firm rotation, the ongoing climate of regulatory change, and the increased focus on globalisation all MEAN that PwC's ability to maintain Independence from our audit clients is ever more business critical for PwC. The Independence team has a vital role to play in enabling PwC's growth, whilst protecting our reputation and brand, and the team will be at the heart of change in the firm over the next few years.

The opportunities that we are offering will provide you with

  • Breadth and insight into the activities of the firm by consulting on a xLoS basis;

  • The ability to contribute directly to the firm achieving its performance goals, especially regarding growth, leading firm and quality;

  • Ability to build a network of partners and staff across the firm and the wider PwC network and be seen as someone who can help them with complex issues;

  • An ability to enhance and refine your listening, influencing and communication skills;

  • The chance to be part of a solutions-focussed, cohesive, vibrant team;

  • An opportunity to mentor, coach and develop an ambitious and talented junior resource pool; and

  • An opportunity to develop a solid technical base and understanding of the independence rules which underpin everything we do as a Firm.

The team

Independence is led by two partners reporting directly to a member of the UK firm’s Management Board.

The team’s role is to support the partners and staff within PwC through the provision of policy and guidance to the firm in respect of a number of regulatory areas, including Independence, Business Conduct and Ethics. The Independence Team consists of 3 Director, 16 Senior Managers / Managers and approximately 15 Senior Associates and Associates. The Independence team is responsible for working with the practice to ensure that the firm meets its regulatory responsibilities as required under PwC Global Independence policy and FRC, SEC, the EU regulations and other territories’ rules.

The Independence team devote time to consulting regularly with practice staff to help them understand the complex nature of the independence rules and to give them solutions-focussed guidance to help structure the services the Firm would like to provide to our clients.

Role requirements

As a Manager within the Corporate Independence team, you will be responsible for undertaking the following tasks

  • Providing advice and guidance regarding queries submitted by the practice. This will involve both the initial interpretation of the firm’s independence rules against specific query related facts and the development of initial advice on matters under review, and also the review of junior team member’s advice.

  • Managing and coaching junior team members on various aspects of Independence (e.g. non-audit services, EU and SEC regulations, FRC Ethical Standards, core processes).

  • Exhibiting role model behaviour in addition to helping junior members of the team fulfil their potential by assisting with their soft-skill learning and personal development.

  • Day to day management of core Independence processes which are key to operational activities.

  • Managing own portfolio of consultations and assessments with key stakeholders in the practice to give guidance on Independence considerations.

  • Other ad-hoc projects as the department so determines from time to time, including the provision of general support to other independence activities.

  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of commercial / client-facing issues, and empathy with the client facing practitioners who the Independence team support;

  • Intellectual capacity to make good judgements with strong analytical, organisational, project management skills and attention to detail;

  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact with self-confidence at all levels, as well as managing internal relationships, e.g. with key stakeholders;

  • Ability to interact with others' demands providing support and/or influencing, with the flexibility to change behaviour where necessary;

  • A conscientious, ambitious team player, with good self-management skills and an ability to take initiative; and

Are you a Senior Software Engineer looking to apply your coding skills to help change the world?

Are you keen to have serious input and influence at a design level?

Then this is the perfect role for you!

We're looking to build an in-house permanent Engineering function. As such, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team. You will report to our soon-to-be appointed CTO and work closely with the rest of the team as it continues to expand.

Your focus will be on building a full white-label offering, allowing us to seamlessly integrate into new retail partners, but you'll also work on a wide range of additional products. Those will include creating an application automating our warehouse operations and adding AI to our pricing algorithms to improve their accuracy.

Our back-end is built using Node.js with TypeScript, and for more UI-focused and mobile products, we utilise React and React Native. Our teams work to Agile methodologies and, as a Senior within that team, it will be important for you to champion these processes and take part in all ceremonies.

Based on your position, we'll also expect the Senior Software Engineer to lead projects and heavily contribute to tooling and architectural decisions, including creating the technical design. You'll be responsible for driving the engineering culture within the team, ultimately fostering a tech agnostic, high-quality approach to engineering.

In the long term, this role has tremendous scope for growth as the function and wider business continue to expand. We see the Senior Software Engineer eventually progressing to Technical Lead, acting as the authority for all things engineering.

What you need as a Senior Software Engineer

  • Experience working on a platform with a reasonable level of complexity - this could MEAN multiple APIs, third-party integrations, or large volumes of data/traffic - and have familiarity dealing with scalability issues.
  • Familiarity with Node.js will also be essential, though non-commercial experience is fine.
  • Given you will be working on some front-end functionality, you will need to have some client-side JavaScript experience, with knowledge around UI interactions.
  • We see good testing standards as essential, and as someone who'll be driving this, you'll appreciate the importance of well-tested code as well as have a passion for the Agile way of working.
  • You must have the motivation needed to join a start-up, with the ability to take initiative on projects and get involved across the whole product life-cycle.

What you'll get as a Senior Software Engineer

This is a fantastic chance to be one of the first hires into a new engineering team, at potentially one of the world's most exciting start-ups. This will bring huge scope and opportunity to not only lead projects but also work on an incredibly complex, almost greenfield platform - building something that's a definite first for our industry!

You can expect to receive the autonomy and trust needed to engineer the best products possible. With the stack and tooling at relative infancy, you will be expected to heavily influence key decision making around new technologies and ways of working as needed. You'll also contribute at a design level, so will be able to make your mark on the product directly.

We really believe that they will be a game-changer - and you'll be a huge part of this journey. The team you'll be joining is full of visionaries who are looking to change the world and, at its core, they were created to help protect the environment. We truly believe that our product will make a genuine difference to how consumers approach retail, helping to mould their purchasing habits to decrease waste and increase sustainable practices.

Talent Point is a Hiring Communications business, working as sole hiring partners with our customers. We've ripped up the rules and torn apart the job spec to give you total clarity and visibility, painting a vivid picture (approved twice, both at Line and C-level) of the way this company lives, breathes and behaves, and how your role will look over years not months. We present only three applicants for every vacancy so, where we do represent you, you have a very high chance of securing a role with pre-booked interview times to plan around, in-depth vacancy details and no delays. Are you ready to seriously invest in your progression? Let's design your future.

Talent Point is an equal opportunities employer and no terminology in this advert is designed to discriminate on grounds of gender, race, colour, religion, creed, disability, age, sex or sexual orientation or any other class protected by applicable law.
