A leading Big Data software solution provider is looking to add a talented Senior Java Software Engineer to their scrum team. We’re looking for someone who is happy designing, implementing, testing and documenting new modules for their product, alongside optimising and enhancing existing modules.

The role of Senior Java Software Engineer is based in their product team, designing and implementing frameworks and APIs that power their core product. The core frameworks are responsible for the heavy lifting required to produce this view, so you should be used to shipping Docker containers using a CI system. You’ll be working with the entire dev team and stakeholders across the business, so must also be able to engage with all.

As Senior Java Software Engineer, you’ll need to be comfortable working in an Agile team, with good knowledge of the following core skills to be considered:
· Java (Maven, Spring)
· Python
· Linux (Red Hat/CentOS, Docker)
· SQL (Vertica, Postgres)

Any experience with the following would be advantageous:
· Big Data (Kafka, Hadoop, etc.)
· Machine Learning
· Kubernetes

Due to the nature of this work all candidates must be British Nationals, and already hold or be eligible to hold UK Security Clearance to SC level or higher.

Essential experience required:

• 12 months minimum Linux experience as a System Administrator (ideally RHEL)
• Experience of managing and administering anti-virus, system back up and monitoring tools
• Familiarity with the core tools such as git, ssh, Linux command line and Bash
• Able to write documentation detailing routine system administrative tasks such as restoring services from back-ups, swapping out un-serviceable hardware etc
• Root cause analysis and debugging to aid in resolution of functional and performance related defects
• A passion for learning new technologies and innovation

Desirable: experience required:

• Networking familiarity - e.g., can describe HTTP protocol, TCP/IP
• Hadoop or distributed computation
• Big Data
• Able to write scripts using Python or Bash
• Automation/configuration management (i.e. Ansible)
