Technical Requirements:
• Design and develop software solutions to agreed requirements using a range of languages and technologies including C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, TypeScript.
• Have strong T-SQL skills. Be able to write, maintain, test and debug complex T-SQL Stored Procedures and queries.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop software solutions to meet agreed acceptance criteria and stories using a range of languages and technologies
• Write clean, self-documenting code that is well structured, well-named, simple and easy to read
• Actively contribute to requirements discussions and requirements analysis, and take responsibility for understanding scope, risk and complexity of changes
• Analyse, identify and FIX root cause of defects throughout the various layers of an application
• Identify, compartmentalise and execute refactoring where commercially/technically necessary
• Environment management, management and automation of deployments, understanding and administering of development toolchain
• Support the team's sprint deliverables, through proactive contribution to planning, ownership of tasks, identification of dependencies and basic risk management
• Actively promote a quality focussed approach within the team, showing ownership for QA activities and collaboration with the QA team. Prepared to test own work and that of others to ensure quality.
• Helps to ensure value is achieved through development by understanding customer requirements, identifying dependencies and risk, and clearly communicating and escalating where appropriate

The Professional Service Support role provides second level business-technical coordination between my client’s business customers and the Professional Services team whose developers provide customer-specific software development and defect fixes for my client’s reports and integration software.

Role:

• Identify and assess customers’ needs to achieve satisfaction and document concisely, accurately and unambiguously any new software requirements, changes and defects
• Manage the coordination, communication and updates between the customers, developers and any other parties involved in new custom development or software FIX
• Provide prompt, accurate and meaningful feedback to customers and diligently work within due dates and SLA.
• Establish a good working relationship with customers and developer colleagues translating business requirements into well formed, complete work packages, and developer technical responses into business/layman language
• Research, diagnose, troubleshoot and identify solutions to resolve customer issues
• Provide support, including procedural documentation & relevant reports as requested
• Accurately document, prioritize & manage multiple cases simultaneously on a ticket management system

  • Ensure detailed and accurate information is captured at the first point of contact
  • Provide initial troubleshooting and diagnostics capabilities
  • help maintain our strong first time FIX rates
  • Ensure incidents/requests are assigned to the correct technical resolver groups
  • Prioritise and categorise incidents in line with our existing processes
  • Assist in the handling and management of Major Incidents and outages

Essential Skills:

  • 2 years' previous experience working in a busy IT Service Desk environment
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering outstanding customer service under pressure.

Desirable Skills:

  • ITIL v3 Foundation level qualification
  • Vendor qualifications (Microsoft, CISCO, Citrix)
  • A basic understanding of PC hardware and software, including Dameware and LogMeIn
  • Experience of supporting a Windows 7/10 desktop environment

So the 1st and 2nd Line support teams screen the calls and when they cannot FIX the issue it comes through to the 3rd line. This involves the most difficult problems and requires a solid understanding of ERP software functionality (or similar business application software), Progress 4GL development and database work, break / fixes, and the ability to talk to the clients to figure out what the real issue is.

You will make enhancements and modifications to the ERP software, and test and debug problems and solutions. So you will have a solid background as a Progress 4GL developer and will have worked on a large piece of application software doing support, at 2nd or 3rd Line, enabling you to understand how to work through the support process.

Experience of Progress development, testing and debugging and business software application support are essential.
