Data Scientist

A Data Scientist is required for a hugely successful business based in Aberdeen. The company are a global outfit who work alongside some of the biggest names in the industry on a daily basis.

This role is an initial 6 month fixed term contract for a professional who is looking to get their foot in the door in a multi-national business and gain vital industry experience. You will be reporting directly to the Data Solutions & Delivery manager as this is a vital position for the business.

Working at the heart of the IT department, you will be seen as the go to person regarding data related and technical projects. The main aspect of the role is in relation to building products and solutions regarding quality control, data pipelines and data modelling, however you will also be providing significant inputs across the entire spectrum including data mining, dashboard development and applying machine learning algorithms.

Key Skills and Experience:

** Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques are desired but not essential

** Excellent communication skills (industry experience is preferred)

Your role
You will consult as part of a wider project team on client engagements to define Finance information models. With your team, you will support to advise on best practice modelling techniques to define what data is required, how it is interconnected and what story it can tell.
You will be responsible for:
  • Supporting your project team to define Finance data requirements that enable large-scale transformation and big data initiatives
  • Leveraging data modeling tools within client organisations e.g. PowerDesigner, Enterprise Architect and Erwin

Your role
Using cutting edge technology you’ll work alongside colleagues, often in multi-disciplinary teams, helping to solve our clients’ most significant challenges. In particular, as a Transaction Monitoring Specialist you will work on a wide range of Financial Crime projects, helping our clients to use analytics and technology to meet their obligations under national and international regulations.
Leading a small project team you will help to find solutions for clients on projects typically driven by compliance and risk problems, mainly in the financial crime and regulatory fields. You will work directly with our clients to understand the challenges they face and design, propose and deliver solutions that address them.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Scoping the delivery of projects, working closely with clients and other project stakeholders to understand their requirements;
  • Leading the delivery of analytical work leading a team/(s) of colleagues;
  • Providing subject matter expertise (SME) to our Financial Crime team including in the area of Transaction Monitoring solutions;
  • Managing the quality and accuracy of your team’s work and addressing risks as they arise;
  • Evaluating new technologies to expand the scope of the team’s work and improve its efficiency;
  • Contributing to the overall business management and leadership of the forensic analytics team;
  • Contributing to the firm’s talent agenda, managing and working effectively in diverse teams and helping to foster an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their contribution;

Location: London or St. Albans with a requirement for national and international travel for specific client projects. We work across various industries â€" our clients are wide-ranging, and associated projects will vary in both location and duration.

Your professional experience
Essential:

  • Experience of a market leading Transaction Monitoring (TM) or Transaction Surveillance (Market Abuse) rules engine (e.g. Actimize, Norcom, Mantas, BAe Detica, SAS, Quantexa etc.), including the testing, tuning and statistical optimization of the solution using a formal structured methodology;
  • Use of data analytics tools and techniques (e.g. SQL, Oracle or SAS BI) and ETL software (e.g. SSIS, Informatica or CloverETL) to address Financial Crime problems;
  • Transaction Monitoring and Financial Crime domain expertise and/or technical knowledge acquired from a Compliance, Business or IT perspective;
  • Scripting or programming (e.g. R, Java, Python or C#);
  • Ability to work with and lead project teams, helping to motivate team members;
  • Supporting the development of colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that you can adapt to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Contribution to or development of proposals and propositions for internal or external clients.
Preferred:
  • Relevant postgraduate or professional qualifications (including compliance experience as a practitioner and/or Financial Crime compliance qualifications (e.g. ICA or ACAMS or equivalent);
  • Experience of working on projects for external clients;
  • Experience of working in or working on projects in regulated industries, particularly financial services.

Your role
Using cutting edge technology you’ll work alongside colleagues, often in multi-disciplinary teams, helping to solve our clients’ most significant challenges. In particular, as a Transaction Monitoring Specialist you will work on a wide range of Financial Crime projects, helping our clients to use analytics and technology to meet their obligations under national and international regulations.
Leading a small project team you will help to find solutions for clients on projects typically driven by compliance and risk problems, mainly in the financial crime and regulatory fields. You will work directly with our clients to understand the challenges they face and design, propose and deliver solutions that address them.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Scoping the delivery of projects, working closely with clients and other project stakeholders to understand their requirements;
  • Leading the delivery of analytical work leading a team/(s) of colleagues;
  • Providing subject matter expertise (SME) to our Financial Crime team including in the area of Transaction Monitoring solutions;
  • Managing the quality and accuracy of your team’s work and addressing risks as they arise;
  • Evaluating new technologies to expand the scope of the team’s work and improve its efficiency;
  • Contributing to the overall business management and leadership of the forensic analytics team;
  • Contributing to the firm’s talent agenda, managing and working effectively in diverse teams and helping to foster an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their contribution;

Your professional experience
Essential:

  • Experience of a market leading Transaction Monitoring (TM) or Transaction Surveillance (Market Abuse) rules engine (e.g. Actimize, Norcom, Mantas, BAe Detica, SAS, Quantexa etc.), including the testing, tuning and statistical optimization of the solution using a formal structured methodology;
  • Use of data analytics tools and techniques (e.g. SQL, Oracle or SAS BI) and ETL software (e.g. SSIS, Informatica or CloverETL) to address Financial Crime problems;
  • Transaction Monitoring and Financial Crime domain expertise and/or technical knowledge acquired from a Compliance, Business or IT perspective;
  • Scripting or programming (e.g. R, Java, Python or C#);
  • Ability to work with and lead project teams, helping to motivate team members;
  • Supporting the development of colleagues through mentoring and knowledge sharing;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that you can adapt to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Contribution to or development of proposals and propositions for internal or external clients.
Preferred:
  • Relevant postgraduate or professional qualifications (including compliance experience as a practitioner and/or Financial Crime compliance qualifications (e.g. ICA or ACAMS or equivalent);
  • Experience of working on projects for external clients;
  • Experience of working in or working on projects in regulated industries, particularly financial services.
