The Role

This role represents our commitment to solidify our data processing and delivery mechanisms using up-to-date technologies and solutions. We have a range of projects coming up, from online measurement projects with big daily buckets of incoming data to geospatial analysis projects where huge amounts of GIS data need to be actively used.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading on designing the data-architecture and ETL’s for the projects in the team pipeline
• Designing data pipelines, choosing the optimal data storage solutions and consulting senior business on appropriate data solution fit
• Managing our cloud capabilities and maintaining our cloud storage solutions and pipelines
• Developing machine learning models in production for Big Data driven projects
• Wrangling data and devising appropriate access methods for our Data Science team
• Optimising data warehousing solutions for quicker processing of typical queries and faster delivery
• Designing API solutions and other client access solutions
• Reporting to the Head of Data Science and helping us to build our team and identify talent
• Drive, commitment & enthusiasm to deliver
• Work closely with other internal teams (business development, client service, research and operations) – developing a good professional relationship
• To be on top of new industry developments – not limited to the UK

What do I need to bring with me:

• Extensive experience in similar roles - as a data engineer responsible for designing and delivering large-scale data solutions
• You have experience working alongside data scientists in a wide range of data problems from building APIs to wrangling unstructured data.
• You have a good understanding of math and statistics - you are not scared of writing code that performs interpolations and statistic calculations.
• You have a solid understanding of datastore and processing solutions, mostly for unstructured data, but also relational databases
• You have experience of operating production services and managing the cloud infrastructure it runs on (knowledge of GCP is a plus).
• Good knowledge of general scripting languages, with Python being preferred. Knowledge of Scala or willingness to learn is a plus
• Knowledge of Spark, Elastic Search, Kafka or data streaming solutions is a plus
