At WorldFirst we are building the best platform for international trading in the world!

WorldFirst was born back in 2004 by two innovators in a South London basement armed with ten years of banking experience, an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to provide customers a real alternative to the big banks. Since then, we’ve grown exponentially and with a global team around 600 strong, have become a market-leading, multi-award winning, bank-beating, rapidly-growing, fun-loving international payments company.

Currently, more than 400,000 global customers & 150,000 global businesses choose WorldFirst for their international transfers. We have transferred £70 Billion for our customers since we launched in 2004, more than 1 million transfers per year!

WHAT WE ARE BUILDING

Our platform has carried us so far but we have taken it to its limits. We are currently deep in tech transformation. We are moving our platform to the Cloud, building microservices, exploring asynchronous communications models and investing more in JVM technologies.

WHO ARE YOU

We are looking for highly skilled engineers, passionate about software & technology. We value learning and improving, team spirit and positive attitude. We are trying to deliver pragmatic solutions while ensuring good quality (no hacks, no cutting corners). Join us if you are a strong all-rounder and a critical thinker ready to challenge and be challenged!

As a senior engineer, you are expected to simplify problems and create abstractions. You are a team player, happy to mentor, provide constructive feedback either directly or through code reviews, eager and capable of leading tech communities (e.g. code clubs) but you can also work independently with minimal or no supervision. You are not afraid of responsibility, you make real difference in the team and you can be the go-to person.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT

  • Proven demonstrable experience programming with PHP 7
  • Fluency with at least another mainstream language.
  • Modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience with automated testing and practices that support it: TDD, BDD
  • Familiarity with microservice architecture, continuous delivery, event driven architecture, Jenkins, Docker
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment
  • We value experience using modern JavaScript frameworks – preferably React.
  • Highly desirable devops skills
