An industry leading Media technology company specialising in software based solutions for the delivery of content.

The Brief

To provide technical expertise and support of system on Ingres databases and installations both locally and at client sites on Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems for a . The role involves the provision of technical leadership on database and server related environments.

The work will involve:

  • Ensuring that database changes are rolled out to internal databases,
  • Packaging and installing releases to clients,
  • Monitoring and maintaining database installations,
  • Writing batch scripts to support the work
  • Providing 2nd-line support for technical issues.
  • You will work closely with Software Engineering and Systems Administrators. They will join a rota to provide 24/7 support for clients.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of database administration, application deployments and upgrades both on internal and external client installations.
  • Test and prepare implementation of database software upgrades and patch releases for customers.
  • Create and make available databases for Support, Development and Test.
  • Manage standard DBA tasks, including securing databases, managing space, monitoring performance, installing patches.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support as part of a rota.
  • Maintain documentation of new or amended procedures
  • Conduct Technical Surveys and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Ensure all working practices comply with Health and Safety legislation.

Experience/Knowledge:

Essential

  • Deep knowledge of Ingres and a good grounding in Unix/Linux.
  • You will be able write and run basic sql to interrogate and update a database without using an sql builder tool.
  • You will be comfortable navigating in Unix and be able to run basic commands on the command line to list files/directories, understand permissions, search for processes. Experience in the vi editor and/or writing batch scripts is desirable.

  • Experience of applying Critical Patch updates to databases and applications in production environments.
  • Commercial experience of software deployments and installations
  • Analytical ability to investigate, using appropriate tools, database failures, error log entries and other problem indications and to propose and implement solutions
  • Effectively communicate issues to others with less detailed database knowledge such that problems can be explained to clients
  • Work under pressure and remain calm and objective when dealing with problems whilst having due regard for the urgency of situations where issues are impacting operational service levels
  • Professional client facing skills and the ability to plan and prioritise workload and complete documentation
  • Available to work out of standard business hours and as part of an emergency on call rota when required.
  • Undertake occasional travel as required.
  • Take decisions on actions required within the bounds of responsibility and to escalate problems as necessary to management

Migration Engineer (Windows & Linux)

A public sector client of ours is currently looking for a Migration engineer, the primary focus of this role will be to assist with the design and implementation of a large-scale migration of users (approx. 1500 users), services and applications. There will also be the requirement to provide support for the services and applications within our clients site.

Key responsibilities:
*Provide consultancy and support for the migration of services from our client's research area into a centralised IT delivery model.
*Provide day to day support of systems to include support of Windows, Active Directory, Unix / Linux and research specific applications.
*Responsible for the successful delivery of technical aspects of the migration project within a Service Management framework and in line with the agreed standards and Service Levels.
*Represent changes to the Research environment in Change Advisory Board meetings, daily and weekly Service Review meetings and the Design Authority.
*Responsible for working closely with the other teams within IT to provide an excellent IT Service.
*Responsible for peer reviewing and contributing to proposed Research solutions to ensure they are fit for purpose and provide optimal value for money.
*Responsible for the adoption into service of new solutions ensuring operational suitability.

Key Skills Needed:
*Experience of migration design and execution for services such as Active Directory, Windows File Services, virtual servers, applications and services
*Experience in designing and delivering secure cloud solutions based on Microsoft Azure (IaaS) in an enterprise environment
*Good knowledge of LAMP stack (Linux Apache, MySQL, PHP) both from a support and implementation perspective
*ITIL Foundation qualification
*Good knowledge of IT Security protocols, networking, processes, policies and standards
*Knowledge of IT service management, including change and incident management
*Excellent knowledge of ICT technical standards
*Experience of working with enterprise scale applications, infrastructure and software
*In-depth understanding of complex technical issues

What will you do

You’ll be responsible for designing and building both supervised and unsupervised learning technologies to parse objects and determine their state as far as it is relevant to driving decisions. States might include object classifications, traffic signal states, orientations, wheel angles and human actions.

What will you do?

As a Frontend Software Engineer, you’ll be a vital member of the Platform Team, deploying our self-driving tech stack both onto our fleet of vehicles and into cloud-based simulation environments. We are constantly testing the latest versions of software, as well as performing data collection missions in London and elsewhere. We index and annotate vast quantities of data from real-world missions, and use this together with simulation to improve the capability and safety levels of our stack.

You’ll develop tools to launch, run and monitor our autonomous driving stack, working closely with many different teams across the company from sensors, computer vision and machine learning to deliver features and improve performance.

Requirements

  • You’re fluent in Javascript, Python and shell scripting
  • You have built and delivered projects with React
  • You have knowledge of current software engineering best practices and methodologies.
