Data Engineer required on a permanent basis for a London based Law Firm paying a competitive salary. This is an exciting role working within a legal services company, focused on technology and social media, where you will be exposed to a variety of diverse clients alongside an extremely strong team.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Coding, deploying and maintaining web crawlers, scrapers and data pipelines
  • Developing frameworks, packages and tools to standardise and scale operations
  • Building CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments
  • Working closely with data scientists to provide them with data products
  • Collaborating with software engineers to build scaled and resilient solutions


Skills and Experience

  • Experience in any of the following would be ideal:

Python or R, and SQL
Web scraping, XPath, JMESPath, Regex, and Selenium
HTTP/HTTPS protocol, HTML, JSON, and API
Working with Linux, GitHub, and Cloud

  • Experience in building automated crawlers, scrapers and data pipelines is ideal
  • Appreciation for Machine Learning and how it could be used for the above
  • Familiarity with Cloud and Software Engineering principles

Web Tech Lead

Purpose of Role:

As a web tech lead, you will have a specialist in Web but use much wider technical experience to help steer your team and peer engineers. This is a hands on role so will be expected to support feature development as well as provide the leadership to other engineers.
You will help define how we use web and mobile to drive our business. You will share your passion and experience with others and encourage a sharing is caring culture as well as supporting less experienced team mates to grow and develop.
Your remit will go beyond projects as the wider engineering community will look to you for coaching and advice.
You will be a strong influence on others and your success will largely be based on that.


Principal Accountabilities
- Work as part of multidisciplinary teams, developing web backend systems and mobile apps
- Plan and prioritise work for your team, with the appropriate input from others
- Build up a solid understanding of the domain you are working in, and proactively identify and clarify new requirements
- Help team members present their work to technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders in a clear and engaging way
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in your specialism and in your Community of Practice, leading by example
- Help run your community of practice, encouraging broad participation
- Use your understanding of Allica and its goals, to identify ways to enhance client relationships & develop new capabilities
- Proactively seek out learning opportunities for you and your colleagues, both within Allica and externally
- Mentor and support more junior colleagues e.g. through pair programming, answering questions
- Help more junior colleagues plan their careers and progress at Allica

Experience
- Collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders to drive alignment, build trust, and foster engagement across multiple areas.
- A solid demonstrable experience of web development and of managing application state
- Solid understanding of:

  • Common architectural patterns (such as MVC, Redux) and why such patterns are important
  • Managing side effects and common frameworks (eg. Thunk, Sagas etc.)
  • Networking (e.g. HTTP vs HTTPS)

- Extensive experience with:

  • Source control (e.g. Git, GitFlow, GitHub, Bitbucket etc.)
  • Package managers (e.g. NPM, Yarn, Bower)
  • Testing frameworks (e.g. Selenium / Mocha / Chai / Jest)
  • Working in an Agile environment
  • Collaborating with designers, test engineers and 3rd parties

- A solid understanding of:

  • SOLID principles
  • Continuous integration and setting up of a CI environment
  • Common authentication patterns (e.g. OAuth, SSO)
  • Browser security (e.g. CORS, HSTS, Anti-forgery tokens, JWTs etc.)

What will you do

You’ll be responsible for designing and building both supervised and unsupervised learning technologies to parse objects and determine their state as far as it is relevant to driving decisions. States might include object classifications, traffic signal states, orientations, wheel angles and human actions.

What will you do?

As a Frontend Software Engineer, you’ll be a vital member of the Platform Team, deploying our self-driving tech stack both onto our fleet of vehicles and into cloud-based simulation environments. We are constantly testing the latest versions of software, as well as performing data collection missions in London and elsewhere. We index and annotate vast quantities of data from real-world missions, and use this together with simulation to improve the capability and safety levels of our stack.

You’ll develop tools to launch, run and monitor our autonomous driving stack, working closely with many different teams across the company from sensors, computer vision and machine learning to deliver features and improve performance.

Requirements

About You:

  • You’re fluent in Javascript, Python and shell scripting
  • You have built and delivered projects with React
  • You have knowledge of current software engineering best practices and methodologies.
  • You have experience across the full software development lifecycle in a fast-moving and innovative industry.
  • You are curious to learn, enjoy getting stuff done and discovering how things work.
