Your new company
My client are one of the largest influences in their industry in the whole of Europe. They aren't directly a technology company, how ever this is still a great company to work for as a developer. Their tooling and processes have been built from their experience working in big tech companies, so you get the benefits of industry level best practice, while working in a small, personal, collaborative team environment.

This is a chance to work on code that will have a positive impact on the lives of many in the UK.

Your new role
This position would suit a Senior Developer who is aspiring to move into a people management role, whilst still staying very hands on. The Head of Digital is looking for someone to come in and take ownership of the company code base, as well as overlooking their offshore development team. On top of this, you'll be working as a Full Stack Ruby on Rails web application developer on internal facing tools and external facing products used by their customers and the general public.

They have a busy product road map for the year ahead and there is a lot more that they would like to build, so they are looking to grow the team internally!

You'll be pleased to know that they:

  • Use modern well-established tools (React, Ruby on Rails 5, APIs, Progressive Web Apps)
  • Run a continuous Integration (CI) and deployment (CD) process
  • Have good tests and code coverage
  • Run code reviews for all work
  • Have minimal DevOps requirements (managed via Heroku and AWS)
  • Work in a lovely office, with quiet spaces to focus, and a lake to sit by if you ever experience "Error: -41" (Link to https://xkcd.com/1024/)

What you'll need to succeed

  • Motivated to build products and tools that make users lives easier
  • Proficient with Ruby on Rails and React frameworks
  • Experience working on software projects as part of a team (Estimation, Code Reviews, Issue Tracking, etc)
  • Some experience of leading a team or managing developers (offshore or in-house)

What you'll get in return

  • Full time competitive salary position
  • Work in a beautiful converted manor house in rural Hampshire - complete with it's own lake and plenty of onsite parking
  • Fun - through annual staff away-days, Christmas party and opportunities to socialise with other like-minded people throughout the year
  • 5 weeks paid holiday (plus Bank Holidays)
  • Opportunities to work with the company charity foundation
  • A staff benefits program which includes free mobile phone insurance, discounted cinema tickets and hundreds of other perks and discounts
  • Bonus scheme and company performance based rewards
  • Opportunity for 1 month sabbatical after 5 years employment
