Senior Linux & Unix Application Developer/Engineer

Overview of the Role

As the Senior Linux & Unix Application Developer/Engineer you will be taking functional and developmental designs & requirements through to solution. The type of solutions can be anything from increasing capacity on an application, building a brand new application, refactoring, replatforming or upgrading applications.

Working with the Application Developers and Technical Project Managers you will be responsible for all of the technical aspects of Disaster Recovery, the tech stack, special requirements of the application ie. low latency, how will it be hosted etc

You will be expected to have Global or Capital Markets experience and knowledge to navigate through the internal infrastructure and understanding of how the systems trade with exchanges & banking messaging protocols.

You will also be expected to have an understanding of at least 1 scripting language, Shell, Pearl, Powershell or Python.

Description:

  • Architecture design and deployment of new hardware and applications - Working with the strategic partners, vendors development and infrastructure teams;
  • Unix & Infrastructure changes - Undertake deep-dive reviews and risk assessment of changes across all environments and impact to Global Markets applications;
  • Complete high and low-level design documentation.
  • Standardisation - Work with our global teams to standardise all aspects of the technical environment.
  • Manage infrastructure technology life-cycle from design to delivery of end product.
  • Provide third line subject matter expertise to support teams during application/infrastructure go-live.

Core Skills:

  • High level of technical knowledge: Unix/Linux; Database (Sybase/SQL/Oracle), Perl, Shell scripting, server and network Infrastructure.
  • Experience in Monitoring, Alerting, and Job Scheduling systems.
  • Knowledge of Global Markets and the mainstream products in use.
  • Exposure to Market Data and messaging Technologies such as Tibco RV, Reuters, RMDS, AMPS
  • ITIL understanding.
  • Excellent communications skills (written & verbal)

The IT Business Senior Analyst is an intermediate-level position responsible for liaising between business users and technologists to exchange information in a concise, logical and understandable way in coordination with the Technology team. The Inventory Management team is a new team responsible for the creation of an innovative platform, which will track the location of billions of dollars’ worth of inventory in real time, the restrictions applied on each piece, how they can be efficiently used throughout the firm, ultimately impacting critical trading decisions. Our brand-new platform leverages innovative event sequencing technology, born from the firm’s systematic market-making effort, and operational research algorithms to optimally manage the firm’s cash and securities inventory. We work closely with the Prime Services and Synthetics Product Group (SPG) which provide clients with equities financing and securities lending services. In this role, you will be a part of a global team of engineers involved in development of this new trading platform – it will replace existing, less efficient, disparate, systems with a state-of-the-art platform to manage inventory. The role will also involve building real-time analytics, visualization of results of recommendations, and provide traders with innovative interfaces to allow them to act decisively.

As part of our team, you will participate in projects to continue building our brand new platform hence directly impacting the firm’s inventory management capability. You will work on all aspects of the project from gathering requirements, working with regional and global traders, to implementing and deploying the platform. KEY ACCOUNT ABILITIES:
  • As a 3rd Line SQL Server DBA, you will be responsible for providing technical support for all in scope Microsoft SQL Server database environments in line with the organisation's established policies and procedures, including new installations and upgrades.

SQL Database Admin

KEY ACCOUNT ABILITIES:
  • As a 3rd Line SQL Server DBA, you will be responsible for providing technical support for all in scope Microsoft SQL Server database environments in line with the organisation's established policies and procedures, including new installations and upgrades.
  • You will support defining, implementing and managing our customers SQL Server database environments in line with architectural standards.
  • You will assist developers and other DBAs, including within the customer organisations, with developments, implementations, upgrades and ongoing maintenance of the database environments.
  • You will be part of a support team that provides 24x7 on call support on a rota basis, with a requirement to be available for additional work outside of normal office hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Customer engagement will be key, and you will establish and maintain good relationships with the customer organisation, and the various service delivery teams within Computacenter.
