Has your expertise in user-centred design been gained working closely with product owners, designer and web developers? Then join Shelter as a UX Designer and you could soon be leading on the standards, processes, tools and knowledge for the design of online products for Shelter Scotland

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change - with individuals, in communities, across society - and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

It's an exciting time to join Shelter Scotland and our digital team. Shelter has a new leadership team working on a fresh organisational strategy, and the Digital team recently received additional investment to expand our capacity to meet the challenge. We're already doing some exciting service design work that affects our digital offering, the helpline, and our centres around the country. We also build digital tools to campaign for change and fundraise to keep Shelter services running. This new role will help us deliver our ambitions to put our users at the heart of every project we work on.

About the role

Delivering designs for websites, HTML emails, digital tools and services and working on some of our social media and digital marketing assets are just some of the attractions of this brilliant new role. As well as developing detailed interface and interaction design patterns for a range of website components, you'll collaborate with web developers to maintain the integrity of UI design throughout the development process. You'll also help facilitate the ongoing development of Shelter's digital design guidelines, pattern library and accessibility standards, and much more besides. And, along the way, you'll get to work closely with other usability and service design experts, product owners and strategists across the organisation.

About you

You'll need a proven track record of applying a variety of design thinking methods and approaches, including usability testing, workshops, observations and data analysis. We'll also be looking for experience of using user research insight to focus product hypotheses and validate outcomes. An understanding of Agile, Lean, Scrum and Product-based approaches and how they relate to design and user research is essential too, with experience working in a cross-functional digital team an advantage. Creative, innovative and customer-focused, you're comfortable collaborating with a variety of colleagues and not afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas when appropriate.

Shelter Scotland helps over half a million people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.

To find out more about the role and the benefits of working for Shelter Scotland please visit our website. Apply to be part of our digital team and be the change you want to see in society.

Safeguarding is everyone's business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.

At Shelter Scotland, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We also encourage applications from people, who have been homeless or have been at risk of homelessness. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them. In addition to this, we encourage an approach to involving people with personal insight of housing issues and homelessness in our recruitment processes.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.

Closing date: 22 March 2020 at 11.30pm. Interviews: 31 March 2020.
