We are seeking to recruit an IT Officer to deliver effective IT support and services at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, based at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford.

As an IT Officer you will help with the smooth running of the IT systems across the department with appropriate support and direction from the Head of Botnar IT Services. You will provide firstline IT support to all staff and students, be an approachable key point of contact for all new IT problems, and help establish improvements to the IT support in a growing department. You will configure new computers, troubleshoot issues, help maintain the servers, ensure information published on websites is up-to-date, and use your experience and aptitude with computers to help others make good use of hardware and common software. You will also assist with updating websites and other IT systems.

You must be educated to A Level standard (or equivalent) and ideally will have some certification of IT skills or equivalent professional experience. You will have broad experience of setting up and supporting a large number of computers (Windows and OS X) and be confident at troubleshooting and resolving issues. You will be experienced in assisting others in using common software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, various web browsers) and supporting IT systems in a quiet working environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to demonstrate a tactful and confidential approach are essential, as is the ability to work independently and also as part of a team with a broad range of people.

Professional familiarity with supporting Windows 10 and recent versions of Mac OS X is desirable. Experience of administering Windows via the command line, administering Linux, using virtual machines (VMWare or Oracle Virtual Box), using a helpdesk ticketing system, or using Novell ZENworks would also be advantageous.

This role will be part of IT IS. We support a varied number of technologies such as Cisco, Fortinet, Dell, HP, VMware, Windows and Linux for the staff, students and visitors at the University.

The role.

The role will be key member of the Systems support team within IT IS. Systems support is a professional, friendly and busy team, constantly balancing priorities to meet the demands of the organisation in an ever-changing environment.

You will work very closely with the other teams that comprise Information Services, as well as staff and students across all levels of the organisation.

This challenging role would be well-suited for someone with a broad knowledge of IT Infrastructure. It will be responsible for supporting and developing technologies including VMware, Dell and HP servers/storage, IIS, SQL, Windows, Linux, SharePoint, Exchange, Office 365 and cloud-based services across multiple campuses.

My client, a large Financial Services organisation based in City of London is looking for an Oracle DBA for an initial 6-month contract role. The position will involve both Database administration and Production of the Banking applications that interact with the Oracle system, so a good understanding of Oracle Solutions will be mandatory. Recent Financial Service experience will be also required

Role:

  • Provide effective day to day technical support for designated banking applications
  • Database administration
  • Provide production support on a shift basis to agreed hours
  • DB performance and tuning
  • Middleware support ideally exposure to Weblogic

Essential skills:

  • Oracle database experience in banking production environments
  • Oracle Replication (Golden Gate/DataGuard)
  • Oracle OEM
  • Linux experience, preferably with Redhat
  • Recent Financial Service experience will be mandatory
