My client is seeking an experienced .NET C# Software Developer to join their team based in Cannock, Staffordshire.

Reporting to the CTO, the ideal candidate will have a number of years’ experience in software development, as they will be playing an important role in developing their next-generation business management platforms and supporting the existing platforms to their prestigious client base.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
• Play an active role in designing and developing components for their next-generation business management software
• Work with 3rd party suppliers and APIs to integrate their platform with other systems and tools
• Help define and implement software development best practices and drive initiatives to improve quality in a fast-moving environment
• Assist junior developers and their technical support team to help improve their skills
• Investigate and resolve issues escalated by their technical support team on their existing platforms
• Participate in code reviews with other developers to improve quality and spot potential problems before code is released
• Test and review fixes and new features written by other developers
• Work with the wider business to help test new application releases
• Write and maintain development documentation for reference
 
Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• 4+ years developing software on the Microsoft platform (ASP.NET, Windows Forms, C#, SQL Server)
• Experience with Git source control
C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, SQL and XML
• Practical experience with deploying and managing applications on Windows Server

Desirable:

Whale Tankers is one of the largest manufacturers of liquid waste tankers and jetting equipment in Europe. Through customer interaction, feedback and design innovation the company have ensured that its brand stands for durability, reliability and ease of maintenance, leading to high residual values on its vehicles.

A need has arisen for an IT Support to join the team based at our Solihull on a permanent, full-time basis.

Responsibilities:

The function of the IT department is to ensure that the IT systems at Whale meet the needs of the company on both a day to day and long term basis.

We have around 70 staff using computers on a daily basis, and our servers are virtualised with VMWare, and include Windows Server, SQL Server and Exchange Servers. Most users connect into an RDP server, although our engineering department use CAD workstations and work locally.

The IT systems comprise the software systems - in-house developed software, third party systems, off the shelf packages, Windows server/mail/database and VMWare, and hardware system - network infrastructure, hardware virtual environment, users’ devices – desktop & mobile.

We also maintain and create some in-house software systems based on C#, VB, ASP.NET. HTML/CSS and Microsoft Access VBA.

The IT department will install, operate, maintain, develop and troubleshoot the various systems, and support users in their use of these systems, using both in-house expertise and external support as necessary.


The duties of the IT Support will comprise:

  • Translating user development request into program change seeking to maximise the users satisfaction and efficiency
  • Providing expert support and knowledge on system related issues
  • Ensuring Statutory and Company HS&E regulations and procedures are adhered to
  • Setting up of new users, and their computer systems
  • Providing IT Training to users, as and when required
  • Maintaining a professional presence to enhance the quality and reputation of both the department and the company
  • Attending technical/ system user groups on behalf of the business
  • Identifying system enhancements or changes which improve computer users processes
  • Analysing, reviewing and altering program to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements
