They need a Data Engineer to work with their customers on the release of several analytics products.

Your new role
As a Data Engineer you will need to have experience using Big Data tools within a cloud infrastructure (GCP) it is equally important for you to work with key stakeholders and customers who may be technical and non-technical. The director is willing to groom you to a Lead Data Engineer but you must show a keen interest in learning, be passionate about data and driving commercial value out of data

What you'll need to succeed

  • An understanding of Hadoop is critical;
  • Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the IT Service Delivery and Global Business Services organizations to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data needs.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in their Hadoop data systems.
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘Big Data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘Big Data’ data stores.

You should also have the following technical skills

  • Big Data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka are crucial to being a success in this role.
  • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases;
  • Data pipeline and workflow management tools;
  • Stream-processing systems;
  • Object-oriented/object function scripting languages;
  • Text processing scripting languages;
  • REST API Pipelines for data extraction;
  • DevOps tools.

You would work in cross-disciplinary teams and act as advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting your teams in resolution of impediments and issues as well as continually developing yourself with industry best practice and tooling used across their engineering team.

What do you need to be considered for this job?

Generally, you are comfortable in a hands-on technical leadership role, blending both solid leadership experience and technical expertise.

We welcome people from a range of role and industry backgrounds but do need to see the following as a minimum for consideration, 1) 5 years + Software Engineering background with experience in building large scale applications with at least one of the following languages: Java or C#.NET, 2) technical leadership experience and desire to help coach and mentor staff, 3) great interpersonal skills and a good communicator with technical and non-technical people, 4) Passionate about driving a true modern DevOps culture, 5) good understanding and/or experience of Big Data/data management.
