Senior Storage Site Reliability Engineer, Chicago, Permanent Direct Hire role

A top hedge fund is hiring for a Senior Storage SRE in their Chicago office with a deep understanding of large scale storage and data services to help architect, build, and operate high throughput storage platforms using a combination of off the shelf software, vendor appliances, and internally developed automation to power the revenue generating workloads of hundreds of quantitative researchers. You will evaluate new storage hardware and software to meet business requirements, build automation tools to monitor, manage, and provision storage devices, build automation to manage and report on user data and data access, and provide escalation support to operations teams and software developers.

Candidates must have at least 4 years of experience delivering scalable data storage services for large scale environments and be an expert on the challenges of data persistence with the know how to compose reliable services from unreliable components, be highly fluent in Python for building automation tools and services, be knowledgeable on backend storage for different use cases i.e. object, block, or file storage, have a deep knowledge of NFS and Unix, be a practitioner of Infrastructure as Code, constantly evaluating and pursuing opportunities to automate tasks, and  have experience using configuration management tools such as Salt, Ansible, and Puppet.

Candidates should ideally have experience with public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and GCP for hybrid storage environments using S3, GCS, or Glacier, experience with software defined object storage products such as Swift, Ceph, Cloudian, Scality or HPC filesystems such as Lustre, GPFS, experience with managing and automating enterprise storage vendors and products such as EMC, NetApp, experience with modern monitoring tools such as Prometheus, InfluxDB, and experience with version control such as Git, Perforce.
