The role

We are looking for a software engineer to develop, code, and test technological innovations in financial and digital services whilst working with internal technical development and business teams and our external partners on technical innovation projects to deliver high-quality software MVPs. You will develop sandboxes and cloud test environments for the Lab's technical assets whilst continuously monitoring and optimising. You'll interact with and advise external technical stakeholders, including GSMA members and other industry players participating in project collaborations, and also monitor and research technological trends in financial and digital inclusion.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering experience
  • Programming logic and knowledge in 2 languages (Java, JavaScript, PHP or Python)
  • Framework experience in Node.JS, Drupal, spring-boot or apache-tomcat
  • Desirable knowledge in OpenAPI (Swagger), Postman, SwaggerHub, Docker, Maven, CircleCI, Git, GitFlow, Cloud Environments (AWS, Azure, others)
  • Good communication and verbal skills

• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
• Knowledge of MySQL features
• Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
• Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as {{Git / Mercurial / SVN}}
• Experience of working in a high-volume user environment

• Contribute to and maintain technical documentation and operating procedures.
• Troubleshooting reactive database issues for internal and production.
• Responsible for enhancements, maintenance and upgrades to the database environment Delivers database administration, engineering and technical support to end users
• Provides regular trend analysis to track database performance and throughput, for capacity planning purposes.
