The Role

We are looking for a Front end Developer who is well-motivated in a range of web technologies and tools.

You will be working with a number of teams to take projects from initial design to an implemented product, this will include working with our UI/UX design team to transform graphical designs into technical implementations as well as with the wider development team on new project ideas and implementations.

The successful applicant must take an active role throughout this process from conception to implementation, helping to define how the application will look and work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strong Web / Front End development skills including experience of creating responsive websites using modern, clean JavaScript frameworks ES6+, HTML5 and CSS3
  • Good knowledge of modern front end pipelines and tools
  • Comfortable using Git for source code control
  • Collaborative, keen to share knowledge/ideas and take ownership
  • Development of modular code and libraries that can be used across a number of environments.
  • Contribute to the wider ambitions and goals of the business in the creation of new services.
  • Maintenance of existing services and systems.
  • Optimisation of applications to ensure maximum possible speed and minimum complexity.
  • Creation of technical specifications for new features.
  • Collaboration with clients to ascertain their requirements for new or existing implementations.
  • Manage projects from the inception to completion.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient understanding of a range of common cross-browser compatibility issues and knowledge of how to work around them.
  • Experience with the implementation of asynchronous code AJAX requests through a number of methods, such as with jQuery or the Fetch API.
  • Good understanding of how APIs work and the languages behind them, such as XML, JSON or GraphQL. Experience in the creation of applications that use third or first-party APIs would be a plus.
  • Good understanding of the use of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, including SASS and LESS.
  • An understanding of a range of third-party front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Semantic UI, Foundation and others.
  • Previous experience with PHP and CMS systems that run on it, such as WordPress.
  • Ability to learn new web technologies with a passion to expand your skills further as technologies develop in the future.
  • Basic experience with an image editing program, such as Gimp. Photoshop experience is not required, however, it would be a plus.
  • A basic understanding of SEO strategies and how to implement them would also be a plus.
