Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong background in data engineering, big data and business intelligence

  • Experience working with Python, Spark, PySpark etc.

  • Experience working on Azure data platforms- data lake, data factory, HDInsight, Azure SQL etc.

  • Experience working with Databricks would be highly advantageous

  • Ability to consult and work with stakeholders, as well as act as hands on engineer with a focus on delivering high quality pieces of work

Senior Data Engineer

My client is a global Energy trading organisation who are urgently seeking a Senior Data Engineer initially on a 9 month contract basis.

Duties:

  • Work together with the Solution and Data Architect to design the next generation of data platforms.
  • Design and implement data solutions which supports high amounts- and velocity of data, supports future growth, use latest data technologies/techniques, is cloud supported and in-line with Shell's strategies.
  • Design and implement modern data pipelines to extract, clean and process data in batch and real-time from different data sources.
  • Use the latest development, testing and deployment techniques to quickly deploy new releases to e.g. deploy new data pipelines and add data sources.
  • Help establish best practices around data governance, data security- and privacy (GDPR).
  • Drives and applies Agile Framework within his/her operating environment. Will take direct reports, when applicable, through Agile Framework and its respective tools

Essential:

  • Extensive data engineering experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Flexibility on tools (including Alteryx, Data Factory, Databricks, SQL, Python)
  • Data modelling/data warehousing solutions
  • Data visualisation tools and technologies.

What we'd need you to have

  • Object Oriented PHP, preferably 7.
  • Good experience with modern MVC framework, such as Zend Framework, Laravel, Symfony 3/4
  • Ability to work with complex databases (MySQL) solutions - understanding the role of indexing and the use of transactional programming.
  • JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as Vue.js and jQuery
  • Experience working within an Agile environment (SCRUM/XP)
  • Modular CSS using SASS
  • Experience of microservices desirable
  • Java and Python knowledge desirable but not essential
  • Solid Linux experience
