Your key responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the performance architecture of the platform and contribute to architectural decisions at a department and Bank-wide level
  • Bring deep industry knowledge into the team to understand problems, leverage design patterns to make sure the solution delivered align to the performance strategy
  • Contribute to the wider domain goals to ensure flow, consistent standards and approach to software development while designing to a common shared framework
  • Management and leadership responsibilities, such as, leading and collaborating across teams, mentoring and teaching, discovering new techniques and helping others to adopt them, leading by example

Your skills and experience

  • Deep knowledge of performance testing, instrumentation, analytics in an enterprise environment, the ability to understand and produce a holistic view from front-end right through to the datastore is key
  • Experience in the Information Technology industry across technologies, Java and Oracle Exadata
  • Service Orientated Architecture and Micro services and their delivery with Spring on Openshift or public cloud
  • Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development
  • Educated to Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent qualification/relevant work experience, a focus in computer or data sciences would be beneficial

What you'll do:

  • Work in cross-disciplinary feature teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software.
  • Showcase excellent interpersonal and communications skills whilst efficiently working across the project life cycle to ensure software operates as intended
  • Work in a highly collaborative way to complete assigned work, showcase progress and address problems that are well defined, complex and often non-routine.

Key Experience

  • Front end development - Enables us to build applications for the colleague & customer. Typically via the creation of the visual interface of an online or digital asset using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS or UI development
  • Back end development - Makes sure everything works well for our colleague & customers and helps us use data in the right way. It is the coding of scripts in web sites and applications that interact with servers and databases so that their functionality is delivered to the end user. Typically we use c#, Mainframe (COBOL/JCL), SQL, Oracle/Unix and Java/CICS/DB2.
  • Business Rules – This development brings to life the various functional aspects of our systems to drive interaction between our colleagues and customers and also support our colleagues in servicing customer needs.
  • Agile Delivery - Agile delivery methods encourage teams to focus on collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement and the delivery of the highest value item first. It is useful when going after a complex problem that requires experimentation and continued adaption. Scrum is a key method we use which advocates a series of meetings (ceremonies) and activities known as sprints to help teams deliver change

This particular role sits within a Software Engineering team in our Group Transformation division, within the Finance Value Stream and will focus on work in our General Ledger’s LAB.

Labs are co-located teams who work together on key projects to deliver value at pace by designing services that people find useful, easy and engaging to use. Typically, a Lab has a strong focus on complex problem solving in an agile environment where engineers are free to experiment and create innovative products which will transform the way our customers engage with us.

Primarily you'll play a key role in driving quality software solutions into production using an “automation first” approach.

Other specific activities would include defining acceptance testing criteria, endorsing modern testing best practices, working with relevant people to understand the solution choices, maintaining traceability, building trust in the quality of the product, identifying defects and lastly to be a quality engineering champion within Lloyds!

What we'd love to see from you:
We like people who come from a variety of industry backgrounds and welcome having a diverse team.  To be considered for the role as a minimum we would need to see the following in this rough order of priority:

•    2 years + experience within a modern quality engineering/DevOps engineering role in combination with a wider testing history and a good knowledge of the full test lifecycle, test models, testing best practices and test benchmarking.  
•    An ‘automation first’ approach to testing with a passion for driving productivity and a focus on reducing risk within teams.  This includes experience of hands on coding activities, ideally within Java and C#.NET but other languages will suffice as long as you have coding experience.
•    Experience working within a DevOps & Agile working environment.
•    Experience of Selenium & Cucumber.
•    Good people skills and the ability to work in an effective, passionate & fun multi-functional team.
•    Management experience in some shape or form, either line management of teams or a focus on senior stakeholder management and influencing. 

Who are the General Ledger Software Development Team?
Our team sits within the Group Transformation division, in the Finance Value Stream, specifically within the General Ledger’s LAB area of the bank.  You will be responsible for supporting a vast and complex Finance Ledger landscape including the new Oracle Fusion (Cloud hosted ledger) as well as the existing/legacy ledgers and sub-ledgers.  In addition to this, the team also supports the Integrity application for Finance attestation, the Generic Interface Processes as well as the Data Reference Management tool.

Primarily you'll play a key role in driving quality software solutions into production using an “automation first” approach.

Other specific activities would include defining acceptance testing criteria, endorsing modern testing best practices, working with relevant people to understand the solution choices, maintaining traceability, building trust in the quality of the product, identifying defects and lastly to be a quality engineering champion within Lloyds!

What we'd love to see from you:
We like people who come from a variety of industry backgrounds and welcome having a diverse team.  To be considered for the role as a minimum we would need to see the following in this rough order of priority:

•    2 years + experience within a modern quality engineering/DevOps engineering role in combination with a wider testing history and a good knowledge of the full test lifecycle, test models, testing best practices and test benchmarking.  
•    An ‘automation first’ approach to testing with a passion for driving productivity and a focus on reducing risk within teams.  This includes experience of hands on coding activities, ideally within Java and C#.NET but other languages will suffice as long as you have coding experience.
•    Experience working within a DevOps & Agile working environment.
•    Experience of Selenium & Cucumber.
•    Good people skills and the ability to work in an effective, passionate & fun multi-functional team.
•    Management experience in some shape or form, either line management of teams or a focus on senior stakeholder management and influencing. 

Who are the General Ledger Software Development Team?
Our team sits within the Group Transformation division, in the Finance Value Stream, specifically within the General Ledger’s LAB area of the bank.  You will be responsible for supporting a vast and complex Finance Ledger landscape including the new Oracle Fusion (Cloud hosted ledger) as well as the existing/legacy ledgers and sub-ledgers.  In addition to this, the team also supports the Integrity application for Finance attestation, the Generic Interface Processes as well as the Data Reference Management tool.

My client are distributive start up whose product is focused on designing and delivering innovative solutions for our customers, solutions which currently exploit cloud based deployments. They have had incredible growth over the last couple of years.

I am looking for a good knowledge of the Java programming language, plus associated tooling such as Maven, Git and a modern IDE such IntelliJ IDEA. My client are moving towards a fully blown CI/CD automated pipeline, so experience with the design and implementation of unit tests using libraries such as JUnit is essential.

The main responsibility of the role is to carry out Java full stack development activities to develop functionality of software updates

What my client is looking for – .
  • Good experience in core Java, with experience at language level 8/11
  • Interest/ Experience in Unit and Systems testing using JUnit
  • Experience in Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) to include JAX-RS2 and Servlets
  • Experience with both SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DB2 etc) and NoSQL databases (ideally ArangoDB)
  • Experience designing and developing container based Microservice based architectures using Docker including Swarm Mode or Kubernetes
