SW Engineer - Database & Tools - London - £48,000

A fantastic R&D driven communications business is looking for someone to join their team to focus on improving the capability of the Database team across the business.

This role blends data analysis, database administration and software development into one - you'll split your time between managing and improving the data capability, and the rest developing software tools to take advantage of this improved data capability.

What will I do?

  • Maintain databases - in MySql, Oracle and HP Vertica
  • Develop reports and dashboard in Tableau to suit business requirements
  • Develop reports, pages and other software tools to completement the data function, using C# and similar
  • Support with ETL process, data cleansing and improving the capability of the data team across the business


What are we looking for?

  • Software development experience in C# or similar languages
  • Database knowledge - including daily management, ETL procedures, data warehousing etc.
  • Good understanding of database technologies from Microsoft and Oracle, any work with HP Vertica will be a real benefit
  • Experience using Tableau
  • Strong knowledge MySql
  • Experience with CVI programming will be a bonus

Joining a world leader in mission critical voice and data communications, you will join a team dedicated to providing first class support to public safety services.

As 3rd line support engineer within a Unix / Linux environment, working 9am to 5.30pm supporting a shift rota 24/7, 365 day pattern including on-call requirements. It will be expected that candidates will hold a full clean driving licence and have the use of their own vehicle.

Duties will include:

To provide essential 3rd Line Support of the company, and soon to be new live, IT Infrastructure.Support the operation of Linux, Unix systems ensuring they are patched in line with support and security requirements

Ensuring they are monitored and managed to meet required performance and capacity levels as a 3rd line specialist.

Support the diagnosis and resolution of complex technical issues escalated via 2nd line support or directly through analysis of the system performance and behaviour

Develop existing and new services to meet business requirements

Support the development of operational roadmaps for existing services

You’ll need:

Strong Technical support capability (design, implementation and support) in the following Technologies to ensure the client can continue to meet its required service levels for customers:

Full Stack Developer

Summary

The full stack developer’s responsibilities include delivery of high-quality solutions on time, within development guidelines, to an established level of quality and that matches the functional requirements.

Note that this is a developer (not pure coding) role, so the developer is expected to be able to convert business requirements into an IT solution and will be somewhat competent in screen design, UI design and database design.

As an experienced IT professional, the developer will also be expected to contribute to the evolution of the IT strategy, highlighting new approaches, tools and techniques for the betterment of the IT function.

Tasks

  • Development of IT solutions via UI design, coding and database development.
  • Contributing in workshops to evolve coding standards and IT strategy.
  • Peer-review of code.

Skills

  • Empathy for client needs – usability and performance requirements
  • Strong knowledge of C# and .Net Core
  • Strong knowledge of web development concepts – client/server models and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS components.
