The purpose of the Database Administrator role is to manage and maintain  MPS data functions to ensure the high availability of all business-critical databases and overall performance of the MPS data systems.

The successful candidate will support assigned projects/initiatives ensuring delivery of projects to time, cost and quality and that can demonstrate a return on investment. We are seeking a proactive person who can formulate and deliver a database strategy consistent with the requirements of business objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Seek opportunities to improve service delivery, contributing ideas and making suggestions on how processes, tooling, solutions and ways of working can be enhanced, taking the initiative on implementing these where possible.
  • As the data technology landscape continually changes, keep abreast of evolving trends, solutions and principles; making recommendations for improvement to data infrastructure where relevant as to how MPS could utilise these.
  • Undertaking other duties and tasks that from time to time may be allocated to the role holder that are appropriate to the level or role.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Extensive experience of enterprise database design, strategy and architecture
  • Working in a fast-paced team based environment
  • Significant experience of  working with SQL Server in a production environment
  • Working in a change-controlled environment
  • Experience of delivering technical projects from design to implementation
  • Performance tuning and optimisation using monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience of T-SQL development

  • Remote Desktop Support Fault Resolution (Windows 7 and Windows 10) for issues affecting customer experience and network performance.
  • To provide support for software, hardware and other peripherals.
  • To pro-actively provide information to users on the progress of outstanding support calls.
  • To redirect or escalate support requests to the appropriate member of the IT Support.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in a customer service and IT Environment
  • Good troubleshooting Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010,2013 and Office 365.
  • Good Knowledge of System Centre Configuration Manager 1606 and above
  • Patch Management and Application Deployment using SCCM 1606 and above
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory administration, trouble shooting and Group Policy.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and networking technologies (LAN,WAN etc.)

I've been engaged on a project to recruit a .Net specialist for a global energy provider who are based just outside the city centre of Glasgow. You'll be building their next generation of products as they look to set the standard of how to utilise cloud technologies within their industry.

Your new role

You will be developing enterprise business applications to define best practices. This role will give you exposure to web development, mobile development and MS Azure cloud environment.

You will be funded where necessary to undertake training courses. There is no red tape and the working environment is reactionary/Agile rather than rigid. The company is looking for hungry developers that are on an upward trajectory in their career.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have commercial experience working with Asp.Net, MVC and C#. .Net Core is the principal framework that they have adopted for their new work. You will have also worked with wider technologies such as Web Api's, SQL on the back end and HTML5, CSS and Angular on the front end. Knowledge of writing automated tests using NUint, XUnit and Selenium will also serve you well.

This team have adopted the DevOps pipeline and have a commitment to automation. You will be pushing CI / CD and will be working increasingly on the Azure platform.
