Senior Data Engineer (Edinburgh)
Head Resourcing are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Senior Data Engineer for a technically forward-thinking organisation in Edinburgh city centre. This a permanent role for a skilled individual to add to a growing team of data experts. This addition to the team will be responsible for expanding and optimising the flow of data and collection across several cross-functional teams. As a new and exciting area of expansion, I would love to talk to candidates with experience of data pipeline builder and who enjoy optimising data systems. This role is pivotal to supporting the software engineers, Database architects and data analysts on the initiatives around consistent data architecture whilst optimising and designing the next generations of products and data initiatives for the cloud. Key Activities
* Expertise in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), AWS Glue, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Amazon Kinesis, and Amazon Redshift. Also related Database technologies such as Postgres, MySQL and SQL Server.
* Work with our internal engineering teams to convey needs and feedback as input to technology roadmaps. Share real world implementation challenges and recommend new capabilities that would simplify adoption and drive greater value from use of AWS cloud services.
* Drive business outcomes through agile principals while and working in a sprint-based manner.
Required Skills
* Experience of Big Data solutions implementation in a highly technical and analytical role.
* Track record of thinking strategically about business, product, and technical challenges whilst designing and delivering innovating solutions in an enterprise environment.
* Experience with massively-parallel-processing (MPP) models, real-time processing and analytics, data ingestion (batched and streamed) and data storage solutions.
* Experience with DevOps related tooling constructs (Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD)
* Familiarity with Hadoop/EMR/Spark ecosystem and associated technologies and processes.
* Experience developing and testing software in one or more programming languages (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python)
Desirable Skills
* Hands on experience leading large-scale global data warehousing and analytics projects.
* Deep understanding of database and analytical technologies in the industry including MPP and NoSQL databases, Data Warehouse design, BI reporting and Dashboard development.
* Demonstrated industry leadership in the fields of database, data warehousing or data sciences.
* Implementation and tuning experience of Big Data solutions specifically using Amazon Web Services.
* Track record of implementing AWS services in a variety of distributed computing, enterprise environments.
