The Company

Lavanda is an award winning UK proptech start-up whose mission is to power compliant short-term and medium-term rentals for the global real estate industry.

We’ve developed a pioneering technology platform to power legitimate homestays and home sharing - enabling landlords to profit from the rapidly converging worlds of real estate, hospitality and travel.  Our clients include names like JLL, Europa Capital, Aberdeen Standard Investments, and Savills amongst many others.

Having raised £6m+ to date, we’re backed by leading institutional and angel investors and are now scaling the business beyond the UK into Europe and beyond.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We now invite you to join our stellar team of entrepreneurs and help us realise our exciting vision.

The Opportunity

We are hiring for a Growth Ops Manager (known as a Client Onboarding Executive at Lavanda!)  who will be responsible for developing key processes to help streamline our new client onboarding and gear them up for success. If you’re the type of person who looks at manual processes and can’t REST until you find innovative ways to automate them, we’ve probably got your dream role…

Working across our Sales and Customer Success teams, you’ll strive to ensure they have the tools they need in order to manage their clients effectively. You’ll stop at nothing to implement efficient, truly scalable processes to gear your colleagues and our clients up for success.

We build powerful software, and you’ll get to know our technology stack inside and out in order to develop a deep understanding of how our clients and internal teams use our software. You’ll be able to confidently explain the way our product works; you’re a strong communicator and possess a strong desire to help others learn from the strategies and processes you map and roll out across the teams. You’re just as comfortable speaking to internal stakeholders as you are working with our new customers to ensure their onboarding experience is truly seamless.

You’ll constantly analyse the product from both a client’s and an internal perspective and provide ongoing feedback to our Product Team on improvements we can make to ensure we are always working in the most efficient ways to help our clients self-serve.

Perhaps you’ve worked at an OTA, PMS or within the property industry before. Either way, you’ll definitely be able to demonstrate a successful run in a fast-paced (preferably SaaS) tech company and highlight experience of onboarding new clients. Experience in a previous growth ops role is desired, but not essential, but sharing our passion for the role technology plays in disrupting the traditional real estate industry, is!

Finally, you’re the type of person who is excited about taking their career in property in an innovative new direction; you want to constantly grow and develop personally, but are also passionate about being instrumental in helping a fast-growing business grow faster!

Benefits

  • Competitive salary + equity package (tax efficient EMI options)
  • Generous Bonus Scheme - be rewarded for exceptional work
  • Bright, fun and energetic central London office (just next to Chancery Lane and Leather Lane’s bustling food market)
  • Flexible working actively embraced - 1-2 days working from home is the norm.
  • Generous holiday allowance, including the full Christmas break.
  • Healthy, free breakfast options available every day
  • Join a highly motivated, engaged team of extremely smart, creative and talented people.

Hello!

Thanks for taking a look at the job description for a Remote Senior Security Engineer at Impala. We felt a little bit impersonal just throwing you right in there with words like “revolutionizing” and “disrupting”.

As such, we want you to know that the person that wrote this job description apologises in advance for any clichés, startup tropes or sudden-insecurity-driven-panic-attacks that you might find in the description below.

What is Impala now?

Impala makes building travel software incredibly easy. We provide hotels with a powerful data management platform that makes connecting to software, hardware and room distributors extremely easy. Think Twilio for Travel.

We launched in January 2019 and since then have grown at - quite frankly - a ridiculous pace. Our technology is already installed in hundreds of hotels worldwide, on six continents and categorises more than 1 billion data points.

We are a growing team of exceptional people split across engineering, product and commercial that have built a fantastic, remote-but-far-from-distant community.

Where is Impala going?

We’re supported by some of the best investors in the business, the early stage backers behind Deliveroo, PillPack, SecretEscapes, Zoopla, Trivago and more. They’re on board because of our vision - revolutionizing a $1.6 trillion dollar market that’s been out-of-date for 20 years.

Within the next two years, 25% of hotel bookings worldwide will flow through Impala technology and the product that we’re building will support the entire ecosystem of travel technology (we already have over a thousand companies signed up).

Anyone travelling anywhere will interact with products powered by Impala and to achieve this we’re growing the team to 50 people within the next year. So now is the most exciting time to be joining Impala as we go through a large push to scale up!

A brief overview of what you’ll be up to in this role:

  • Leading on security best practices in the development and deployment of our services
  • In charge of defining and leading on security incident detection and response.
  • Authority on the management of data access (tooling, auditing, monitoring)
  • In charge of running regular security assessments, code reviews and tests to assure the security of our platform
  • Working with our IT, operations, and engineering teams to ensure cross-department working practices and systems meet the highest security standards.
  • Individually running initiatives to make our data and services more secure, e.g. analysing existing datasets for security concerns, implementing detection & alerting for unauthorised access.
  • This security lead role has leadership built into it from day one. This role forms the start of a security team which will grow as we scale, meaning forward opportunities to lead a larger security group over time.

You should join us if:

  • You have experience leading on security across development teams, handling GPDR-relevant datasets
  • You are technical and able to contribute hands-on, stepping in where necessary to introduce, implement or demonstrate best practices in the codebase
  • You have been working with modern security tooling relevant to AWS and a modern technology stack (Distributed Node services, cloud-based databases and queues etc)
  • You have applied knowledge of common application security practices (OWASP etc)
  • You are a highly autonomous individual, able to structure and prioritise your work by evaluating, prioritising and communicating security concerns

Where in the world will you be working?

This is a remote position. This means you can work from anywhere +/- 2 Hours of London, timezone wise (and less than a 3 hour flight). We are a remote-first company, our whole engineering team is fully distributed! This was a very deliberate choice to prioritise work-life balance and ensure we’re able to accommodate the best people in Europe. We have loads of remote initiatives to ensure you’re fully setup!:

  • We give you an additional generous Personalised Workspace Budget for things like monitors, keyboards, desk chairs and headphones.
  • We offer an office stipend (you can furnish a home office with a generous monthly stipend, or choose a co-working space near you).
  • You’ll travel once a quarter to meet and socialise with the REST of the engineering team somewhere in Europe.
  • You’ll have a generous Social Budget to travel to London based social events. You'll also have a special 'Loved Ones Budget' that we're incredibly proud to offer, we'll tell you more about that when we speak to you!
  • We have a dedicated Remote Experience Manager in the team, who, amongst other things, will be ensuring you're happy, integrated and empowered whilst working remotely.
  • We will give you a brand new high-spec laptop when you start, giving you the choice between a Thinkpad or Mac.

Please note, we only accept candidates in Western Europe because of timezone and travel time differences. We make no exceptions (we don’t have time to!).

What you’ll get if you join us:

  • We’re in the top 14% of companies in the UK for holiday that we offer, at 36 days - so you’ll have plenty of time to REST and recharge
  • We also offer Impalans one Unsick day per year, so you can proactively look after your health (time to finally book that dentist appointment!)
  • Impala believes that great people should be able to focus on developing mastery of their skills, even if they don’t want to manage people. Here you’ll be able to access 3.5x the average annual raise, even staying in the same role.
  • We put our money where our mouth is when it comes to investing in your development - you’ll have access to a generous yearly learning budget to help you realise your potential.
  • We offer all engineers a Weekly Recess Hour. This is an hour to take off and step out from work and invest in You Time! Lawn mow, yoga, walk or movie anyone?
  • We offer an extended lunch break option, meaning you can take an extra hour lunch break, and we trust you to make up for it later in the day.
  • We offer a stipend to set up your ideal place of work. You can choose between the option of £150 per month to build out your home office, or we’ll pay for your membership at a coworking space near you up to £350.
  • In addition, we give you a special Personalised Workspace Equipment budget for things like monitors, keyboards, headphones or desk chairs.
  • You’ll travel once a quarter to meet the REST of the team in an engineer colocation week, somewhere in Europe.
  • You’ll have a Social Budget to travel to/from & stay in London for a night, for our monthly Impala Social.
  • You’ll have a generous Friend & Family Budget, to get your close friends and family over once a year.
  • We’ll organise socials around your area with other remote workers.
  • We have a Health & Wellbeing scheme in place, offering you the option of a monthly gym membership reimbursement each month, or a health food voucher each month; access to HeadspaceVitality health insurance (UK only); plus the chance to win a massage monthly. Plus loads more.
  • Perkbox. A platform designed to help you to live a better life by personalising, managing, delivering and measuring the best company perks in real-time.
  • You’ll be working somewhere that encourages collaboration, is transparent, has a strong focus on wellbeing, and doesn’t just pay lip service to it’s Core Values.

Sound interesting?

About Us

At Hometree, we want to build the best smart home business in the world by redefining how customers interact with their homes.

Homeowners are now putting more and more technology into their homes so that they can make them safer, more comfortable, and better for the environment.  The problem for homeowners is that the more cameras, solar panels, energy storage batteries, and other connected devices they put into homes, the more complicated they get.  Our mission is to make homes much easier to manage for homeowners through our proven ability to link skilled tradespeople with best in class technology and customer service.

We have started on our journey by offering a suite of insurance and maintenance products to homeowners & landlords. We provide breakdown cover on a range of essential household items such as heating, electrics, and plumbing.  We are disrupting a £2bn market which has large incumbents providing a terrible experience. We are growing 30% each month, and we are the best-rated Trustpilot provider of these services in the UK. This is an excellent springboard for the next stage of our journey - to conquer the REST of the home!

We are a five-year-old business backed by some of Europe's leading Venture Capital firms and other very influential angel investors. We have an incredibly diverse, experienced & passionate team with track records in some of Europe's leading tech start-ups, private equity, consulting, investment banking, and much more.

The Role

Our team’s mission is to build the most secure, efficient, and most trusted platform for providing home services; including a customer control centre for managing contracts, and a dynamic routing and subcontractor management system. We work as a small, tight-knit team, make quick decisions affecting all Hometree tech products, and have the flexibility to learn and develop with whichever tools are best for the job, be it architectural choices, Machine Learning methods, or choice of low- or high-level languages.

At Hometree you’ll have a lot of responsibilities from day one.

  • Plan, design, develop, and maintain AWS web applications and software architectures
  • Building proof-of-concept mock-ups and rapid prototypes, leading to product ownership
  • Mentoring other developers
  • Work collaboratively across the business in a multi-functional role

Desired Skills:

  • JavaScript, HTML, SASS, LitElement or React
  • Great written and oral communication skills
  • Node.js

Apply if you are:

  • A team player who works well with others including those outside the engineering team. Innovation - you need to be open and willing to adopt new ways of working. Our processes are constantly evolving and we always look to take a lean approach.
  • Customer-focused - You should always be thinking, “What can I be doing to deliver the most value to our customers?”
  • Passion, energy, focus and enthusiasm for both the role and our business.
  • Willing to grow - an ability to work quickly with a love for constant learning and personal development.

Behaviours we value as a business

  • Radical Candour - Respectful but direct honesty
  • Ownership - Own your results without complacency
  • Obsessed - Customer obsessed, everything else secondary
  • Trust in Teamwork - Ding the right thing, even when no one is watching
  • Speed - Fast, data-driven decisions and results

Our Commitment to you

We are working hard to create a representative, inclusive and super-friendly team, because we know that different experiences, perspectives and backgrounds make for a better workplace. And that creates a better experience for our customers. Hometree doesn’t discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion or belief, gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or any other protected class.

Hometree’s a workplace where you can be yourself. Dye your hair purple. Take your laptop to the sofa. Whatever helps you feel comfortable and happy at work. We want to do whatever we can to help you grow in your career (and make enough space for a fulfilling home life too).

We are 10 minutes from Kings Cross, with the nearest Tube station being Highbury & Islington. This is your opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing European startups' in the home services sector backed by world-leading venture capitalists and angel investors. To set you up for success we will provide you with a MacBook Air, provide a company Breakfast every Thursday, drinks every Friday at 5pm along with quarterly company-wide social events. To top it off, all employees receive a Perkbox subscription with a host of perks.

The Role

As our UX Designer, you will be working within the Product team to deliver the best user experience for our customers, engineers and internal teams’ tools, websites and apps. As a focal point from a UX standpoint, you will always think customer first and will pro-actively search for customer feedback to ensure the product you define has high levels of engagement, retention and conversion. You will report into the Head of Product and work very closely with our development teams to deliver high-quality customer journeys and features for our new apps and website.

As a company, we follow the Lean Start-up approach and as a result, we will be working on delivering MVPs, experimenting, measuring and learning in order to deliver value to our customers on an ongoing basis.

Some of the products we will be developing in 2020 include the following:

  • Online e-commerce journey
  • Customer portal
  • Engineer apps
  • SME portal
  • Fulfilment platform
  • Price estimation tools

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Consider existing applications and evaluate their UX (user experience) effectiveness
  • Consider the human-computer interaction (HCI) element of a design
  • Run user testing of apps, tools and websites
  • Define interaction models, user task flows, UI (user interface) specifications, and contribute to hypothesis testing
  • Communicate scenarios, end-to-end experiences, interaction models, and screen designs to other people working on the products
  • Working with visual designers and brand manager to incorporate a visual or brand identity into the finished product
  • Developing and maintaining design wireframes (basic mock-ups of applications) and specifications

Apply if you are:

  • Proven UI experience designing responsive websites and apps (mobile, tablet, desktop), ideally in an agency where you had e-commerce and app experience
  • Solid experience in quantitative and qualitative research paired with intellectual curiosity that encourages study design, hypothesis/remote testing tools such as validity, including A/B testing, and iteration
  • Solid experience in creating wireframes, interactive prototypes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator or Sketch and other visual design and wire-framing tools of the likes of: InVision, MarvelApp, Balsamiq, etc.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Ability to work with other team members to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet their needs
  • Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design
  • A solid grasp of user-centred design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns

Behaviours we value as a business

  • Radical Candour - Respectful but direct honesty
  • Ownership - Own your results without complacency
  • Obsessed - Customer obsessed, everything else secondary
  • Trust in Teamwork - Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching
  • Speed - Fast, data-driven decisions and results

Our Commitment to you

We are working hard to create a representative, inclusive and super-friendly team, because we know that different experiences, perspectives and backgrounds make for a better workplace. And that creates a better experience for our customers.
