Summary

Using a combination of science, machine learning and large-scale data this well funded start-up, backed by a team which has already built a billion-dollar revenue business from the ground up, is looking for a back-end software engineer. The team includes some of the most cited scientists in the world and has beaten Google on machine learning for advertising.

They plan to design and build systems primarily to collect, analyse and predict the data. They are building their data analysis and processing pipeline from scratch using Python data science and machine learning tools running on top of AWS. Agile development with Jira, daily stand-ups and git.

  • Design and build the scalable back-end for mass market products
  • Design and build the database's analysis pipelines that support the clients' models
  • Be responsible for the underlying compute and storage infrastructure on AWS
  • Manage and process trial and customer data
  • Design and build simple web applications to support the data collected from clinical trials

Requirements
  • Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or Physics
  • 5+ years experience building strong, reliable data management and processing systems
  • Ability to quickly approach and complete tasks within a tightly-knit team, including Bioinformaticians, Data Science and Machine Learning experts
  • Experience with Python - both on the data science/machine learning toolkit end, e.g. Pandas. NumPy, SciPy, and on the server-side frameworks, e.g. Django, Flask
  • Experience with Linux data infrastructure, e.g. AWS, SQL, Docker, Ansible

Service provisioning requirements include writing CloudFormation templates and Chef cookbooks for zero touch deployment.

 

The Engineer will support planning for releases and service updates. They are expected to deeply understand and support the environments they are responsible for. This role will be focused on improving CI/CD automation and service deployment in general. In addition, they join their peers in Cloud Engineering in overall environment design and support, including Level 3 on-call rotation.

 

Position Requirements:
  • Tightly partner with Development groups to build and deploy better services
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation tools
  • Production experience with Docker at scale
  • Partner with DevOps Tools to build and maintain CI/CD for service environments
  • Gain deep understanding of supported services
  • Implement system and service telemetry to improve reliability and availability

The candidate must possess the following skills, experiences and qualities:

  • Background supporting large scale websites with CDN Services
  • Familiarity with APM and service telemetry environments
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet or Ansible (Chef Preferred) or Terraform

We are ETPA (Enterprise Technology Production Assurance), an advanced and dedicated team staffed with a diverse skill set.  The ETPA Systems Engineer combines traditional systems admin skills along with advanced application support, automation, and troubleshooting skills to enable rapid resolution of critical issues with CME Group's electronic trading systems amongst many Clearing Applications.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and running large-scale, massively distributed, fault tolerant, and latency sensitive applications that run CME Group's business and provide our customers with extremely fast access to our markets.  This individual will work on systems that must achieve a unique blend of ultra-low latency performance, the capacity to seamlessly facilitate the busiest trading days during times of turmoil or surprises in the world economy, and rock-solid reliability and integrity, all while undergoing rapid release cycles.  It's a very critical and exciting role where every day is different, challenging, and rewarding.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with our Technical Operations and Business Operations teams on critical issues by evaluating the problem, proposing and implementing resolutions, and partnering with other teams (DBAs, Networking, Development, etc) as needed for the resolution.
  • Solves problems creatively and communicate effectively.
  • Deploys in-house and 3rd party applications with a keen focus on automation and hardening.
  • Identifies and resolves performance issues and bottlenecks within the specified SLAs.
  • Collaborates with our Global Information Security team to provide secure solutions.

Requirements:
  • Bare metal Kubernetes on Docker administration
  • Istio and Envoy are a big plus
  • Linux scripting, and application troubleshooting
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong automation scripting skills (Powershell, Python, Bash, etc)
  • Solid understanding of Windows operating systems
  • Traditional networking, particularly the ability to troubleshoot issues that involve the network, interpret packet captures, and diagnose connectivity issues.  Multicast experience is a plus
  • Container and service mesh networking and troubleshooting
  • Configuration management and change management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in technical support.
  • A Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and relevant proven work experience that is required for the specific job title.
  • Technical skills supporting 3rd party applications including .Net/C#, Redis, Tibco FTL, Kafka, Docker, Jenkins, and Chef.
  • AWS or relative cloud experience.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and running large-scale, massively distributed, fault tolerant, and latency sensitive applications that run CME Group's business and provide our customers with extremely fast access to our markets.  This individual will work on systems that must achieve a unique blend of ultra-low latency performance, the capacity to seamlessly facilitate the busiest trading days during times of turmoil or surprises in the world economy, and rock-solid reliability and integrity, all while undergoing rapid release cycles.  It's a very critical and exciting role where every day is different, challenging, and rewarding.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with our Technical Operations and Business Operations teams on critical issues by evaluating the problem, proposing and implementing resolutions, and partnering with other teams (DBAs, Networking, Development, etc) as needed for the resolution.
  • Solves problems creatively and communicate effectively.
  • Deploys in-house and 3rd party applications with a keen focus on automation and hardening.
  • Identifies and resolves performance issues and bottlenecks within the specified SLAs.
  • Collaborates with our Global Information Security team to provide secure solutions.
  • Operates as an outstanding team player, works well with others, and possesses a positive attitude.
  • Ability to provide effective and timely solutions in a very fast-paced environment where multitasking and attention to detail is critical.

Requirements:
  • Bare metal Kubernetes on Docker administration
  • Istio and Envoy are a big plus
  • Linux scripting, and application troubleshooting
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong automation scripting skills (Powershell, Python, Bash, etc)
  • Solid understanding of Windows operating systems
  • Traditional networking, particularly the ability to troubleshoot issues that involve the network, interpret packet captures, and diagnose connectivity issues.  Multicast experience is a plus
  • Container and service mesh networking and troubleshooting
  • Configuration management and change management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in technical support.
  • A Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and relevant proven work experience that is required for the specific job title.
  • Technical skills supporting 3rd party applications including .Net/C#, Redis, Tibco FTL, Kafka, Docker, Jenkins, and Chef.
  • AWS or relative cloud experience.
  • Working experience in a Financial industry is a plus.
