Java Engineer - City Centre

Java Engineer required for a major Edinburgh organisation on an initial 6-month contract.

We are recruiting for an experienced Programmer with strong full stack Java development skills to join a prestigious and progressive organisation in central Edinburgh. You will be joining a busy projects division, in a small team working on a variety of business-critical project across a wide variety of technology in an Agile environment.




Main duties


** Analysis of business requirements and technical design for enhancement/build of internal systems.
** Development & maintenance of key software.
** Production of relevant documentation
** Structured unit testing of software
** Implementation of quality software, ensuring business readiness.
** Impact analysis for complex change requests and new projects

Key technical skills


** Sound knowledge of system development techniques and best practice.
** Experience of the full software development lifecycle.
** J2EE, Open source frameworks (e.g. Struts, Hibernate), XML technologies.
** Unit testing tools & frameworks (e.g. JUnit, Selenium, Coverage tools),
** Experience of low-level software design with a good knowledge of UML, modelling tools and Design Patterns.
** Good problem solving and decision making skills.
** Good communication skills with both a technical and non-technical audience.
** Ability to work using different methodologies (End2End, Agile-like particularly TDD).
** Ability to cope with high-levels of pressure, involving high profile projects.

Application Support Engineer – Birmingham £38,000 + Benefits

Application Support engineer urgently required for a global business based in Redditch, my client is a market leader in automated logistic solutions, My client is looking for candidates who are looking progress and work in a role that will give them the potential to progress as a developer, In return my client is offering a competitive salary, great progression opportunities and a fantastic working environment.

•Log new customer calls and update existing customer calls to the Call Logging System as defined in the Call Logging Procedures

•Ensure all communication (internal and external), investigations and information is updated to the Call Logging System and customers are kept appraised

•Review all outstanding “live” calls on the agreed periodic basis and ensure all calls are closed off, after agreement with the customer, once a successful resolution has been provided

•Issue ‘call reports’ to customers as specified in the contract

•Understand the scope of supply of customer support contracts to know what we support, when we support it and the duration of the contract, highlighting any anomalies or opportunities to the Line Manager

•Identify and where capable fix system errors. If this cannot be achieved by the software support team, work with the realization or IPC Department to assist in the fixing of bugs, whilst retaining ownership of the problem

•If necessary, use external support providers (if customer service contract allows)

•Adhere to the appropriate design strategies and development methodologies, as defined by the Software Support Manager and Company quality procedures

•Take ownership of a defined change order, including assessment, design, development (using SynQ), testing (in-house and on-site), documentation and delivery

Skills


•Previous experience in a support/ service role preferably in the Software industry.

•Proven experience of providing a high standard of customer service both internally and externally.

•Background knowledge of Java, and databases skills

•At least 3+ years of experience of working in a Software Support Department for Senior

•Analyses data and information to develop solutions

•Continuously seeks improvements

•Continually develops his/her skills and knowledge

•Adapts to new and changing demands and situations

•Uses technical knowledge and experience

•Manages risks

•Develops practical solutions according to customer needs
