Economic Principal

Salary range: £70,000 to £100,000

Location: London and Edinburgh

Our client is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications sector. They regulate TV and radio, fixed line and mobile telecoms, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate, always with the aim of furthering the interests of UK citizens and consumers.

They also expect to regulate online harms in the future, including protecting adults and children from harmful content from social media giants. Designing effective ways to achieve this is a new and exciting challenge. For those with strong quantitative skills, this is an opportunity to undertake ground-breaking data-analysis and be at the forefront of such work.

Economics is central to our client’s work. With a team of over 60 people, their Economics Group is one of the largest in the competition and regulation economics profession.

As an Economic Principal at Ofcom, you will be responsible for ensuring high quality economic analysis on challenging and high priority projects. You will have significant experience of providing high quality advice on competition and regulatory economics, with excellent academic qualifications. You will manage teams of economists across a number of projects.

You will have excellent communications skills, being able to explain economic issues to senior management and external stakeholders, and will ensure our client’s documents are clear and precise.

Together with the Directors and other Principals, you will be responsible for the leadership of the team of economists, motivating and developing colleagues.

  • Active engagement in defining high quality user requirements using a range of static testing techniques.
