Harrington Starr is partnering with a leading Data company within the finance space who are seeking an Elastic Stack SME to join their data services team in London. 

Key experience:

Successful candidates would be able to demonstrate experience setting up Elastic Stack environments around 40+ nodes, 5TB+ daily ingestion and 100+ users. Design and implementation experience is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

Create Elastic Stack clusters following best practices, performance tuning and all other recommendations for log aggregation use cases in open source environment (with X-pack basic license only). Review and possibly redesign ingestion pipeline architecture. Help with developing logging standards among whole infrastructure. Migrate Splunk knowledge objects (dashboard, visualizations/alerts/reports) to Elastic environment. Meet HA requirements using clustering and replication technologies. Develop monitoring systems for availability, performance and capacity. Secure systems according to company policy and policing data access through the platform. Meet compliance requirements for protecting sensitive data in the data platforms. Creation of documentation for platform components and procedures. Training and development using the data platforms. Elastic index lifecycle management.

Essential Experience:

  • An offer addressed to an experienced Elastic Stack admin/architect who has also fluency in creation of visualizations and dashboards.
  • Deployed Elastic environment of 40+ nodes, 3TB+ daily ingestion, 100+ users.
  • Created variety of different Kibana dashboards and visualizations.
  • Architected data ingestion pipelines in that environment
  • Developed logging standards
  • Worked with open source plugins.
  • Experience in Elastic Stack 6.x

 

Desirable Experience:

  • Splunk – app deployment, dashboards/searches creation
  • Performed Splunk->Elastic migration in past

Essential Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of Elastic stack on architecture level.
  • Fluency in DSL query.
  • Advanced knowledge of Logstash filters.
  • Advanced knowledge of Kibana feature set and its use cases including new features like Canvas.
  • Overview of Elastic open source plugins and its possibilities.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving techniques and creative thinking.
  • Scripting with Python and Bash.
  • Team player with strong ability to solve problems.
  • Deployment with automation tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Desirable Skills

  • Deep understanding of Linux systems.
  • Ability to automate tasks using tools like puppet and custom written scripts (python, bash preferred).
  • Deployment and troubleshooting of Java based applications.
  • Basic software development with Java, Python.
  • Development tools such as Subversion, Git.
  • Knowledge and experience with LDAP & AD authentication integration.
  • Analytical, statistical and mathematical competencies.

Delivering your outputs to agreed time, cost and quality in order to support project and business milestones, and ensuring that your work meets its contractual, safety and environmental obligations.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
  • Knowledge of the engineering life cycle and be able to apply good software management practices to your work
  • Recognition of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations
  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the following technologies: C, C++, C#, Java & ADA

Harrington Starr are currently looking for an Automation Test Analyst to join a leading vendor working on a trading platform. The systems under test are currently hosted on dual platform technology - application components reside on both Linux and Windows Servers.

This person will be one of 6 dedicated test analysts within the team, responsible for designing and building automation test frameworks, working with Test Developers to create automated frameworks and executing automated tests.

Responsibilities include

  • Building Automation frameworks from scratch in Java
  • Designing test suites for automation in order to validate functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Maintaining and improving existing regression test suites
  • Planning test phases and creating Test Strategy documents
  • Keeping up to date with new developments and strategies within their area and the general IT marketplace.
  • Offering ideas, advice and support with regard to improvement initiatives within the team.
  • To do what is necessary to ensure all personal tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably required by the Test Manager, if necessary outside office hours and, very occasionally, at weekends.
  • Working closely with business analysts, developers and operations staff.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3 years test experience within in JAVA automation
  • experience in the financial sector.
  • Some automated testing experience
  • Borland Silk Test, SilkPerformer and 4test language knowledge would be a benefit but training can be provided.
  • Exposure to systems developed on various platforms (Windows and Linux).
  • Experience of Atlassian Jira would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • ISEB certification to at least Foundation level.
  • Development methodologies, Waterfall Model, Agile Methods.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong SQL knowledge with SQL Server or Oracle experience.
  • Strong C++
