MAIN JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for the administration, performance, integrity and security of the Oracle Database, Business Intelligence and other databases used within Nominet.

Proactively administer the database environments across multiple technologies to provide best-of-breed database support to the Nominet business. Deliver enhancements and projects in line with a technical roadmap across multiple database technologies and platforms.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Provision of high quality database support to both Nominet business and IT team
  • Management of RDBMS software, systems infrastructure and people to provide high quality service
  • Work with multiple RDBMS systems, technologies and platforms to create best of breed solutions
  • Work with Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
  • Understand and proactively plan software and infrastructure over a period of 3-5 years to meet both technical and business needs
  • Monitor database efficiency and manage parameters to ensure optimum performance of registry systems.
  • Control access permissions and privileges to the databases
  • Work to Service Level Agreements to manage uptime and performance of both systems and services
  • Manage project activity and balance this with support and administration tasks
  • Work closely with Infrastructure team; Sys Admin and wider IT department to deliver key projects and processes

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Substantial experience working in database roles
  • Excellent understanding of OBIEE and ODI
  • Experience in migration between database versions
  • Upgrade lifecycle management
  • Capacity management planning
  • Database roadmap planning
  • A good understanding of Oracle, Postgres, Cassandra and SqlServer
  • Detailed knowledge of

o Database replication.

o Database indexing, index management and performance tuning

  • Strong skills in PSQL and knowledge of SQL
  • Skills in backup, restores, performance tuning, database monitoring and security.
  • Good Knowledge of RedHat Linux and Windows operating systems

I've been engaged on a project to recruit a .Net specialist for a global energy provider who are based just outside the city centre of Glasgow. You'll be building their next generation of products as they look to set the standard of how to utilise cloud technologies within their industry.

Your new role

You will be developing enterprise business applications to define best practices. This role will give you exposure to web development, mobile development and MS Azure cloud environment.

You will be funded where necessary to undertake training courses. There is no red tape and the working environment is reactionary/Agile rather than rigid. The company is looking for hungry developers that are on an upward trajectory in their career.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have commercial experience working with Asp.Net, MVC and C#. .Net Core is the principal framework that they have adopted for their new work. You will have also worked with wider technologies such as Web Api's, SQL on the back end and HTML5, CSS and Angular on the front end. Knowledge of writing automated tests using NUint, XUnit and Selenium will also serve you well.

This team have adopted the DevOps pipeline and have a commitment to automation. You will be pushing CI / CD and will be working increasingly on the Azure platform.

  • AWS SysOps Administrator Associate certification
  • Designing and documenting operational guides and support processes
  • Ability to work effectively in a distributed team
  • Previous experience working in either a System Administration or 3rd line support capacity
  • Strong understanding of core Amazon infrastructure and services, including CloudFormation, IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, S3, Auto-scaling & Route53
