About us

The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe. It’s a world-renowned institution and an exciting place to work, full of challenges and opportunities.

NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU) is one of the biggest and best-performing commissioning support units in the country, with among the highest levels of staff and customer satisfaction. We work together as a team of over 1,600 expert staff based across the Midlands and North West to make a difference - for our customers, patients and communities.

Offering a full range of primarily non-clinical professional services to both NHS and other public bodies and private organisations across the country, our highly skilled IT department supports more than 20,000 end users - therefore we take our system development seriously and maintain a full broad range of primarily web-hosted systems. Work with us, and you’ll be using T-SQL, Microsoft BI Stack and Power BI. We only host on new, high-powered hardware and we’re increasingly deploying our products to the Azure cloud.

Our services are built on a strong foundation of experienced people who build great relationships, a commitment to NHS values and a thorough understanding of our clients and the challenges they face. We provide real value to our customers by working at scale, creating the synergies and innovation that ultimately drives improved patient outcomes and makes commissioning resources work harder.

Who we’re looking for

Someone who shares our vision to be pivotal in fully supporting the delivery of major improvements in health and wellbeing.

We are looking for a talented BI individual to join the CSU Finance - Reporting team, based out of Leyland, who has a drive and passion in delivering an exemplar service and who would like to progress a career in this profession. You will be joining at a pivotal time in shaping, taking ownership and driving forward the corporate BI offering to ensure the organisation makes the correct business decisions moving forward.

Personal qualities needed to deliver in this role are:

  • Being innovative,
  • The ability to work at pace but retain attention to detail,
  • You should be able to communicate technical developments to finance professionals,
  • Share knowledge to help develop the understanding of BI within the finance team, to enable the adoption of new ways of working.

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer - Finance will report and provide support to the Head of Finance - Reporting in the management of the CSU’s corporate performance ensuring all reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner. You will lead on the design and development of complex systems and reports using Business Intelligence (BI) software such as Microsoft PowerBI and SQL Server. This includes responsibility for design, performance, delivery and maintenance of reporting solutions and underlying data.

You will create fully automated web-based solutions which provide meaningful analysis to the organisation to be used by Senior Managers and the CSU’s Finance team on a routine basis. The post holder will also work on wider CSU BI development projects with the BI Development team to ensure skills are maintained and developed.

We provide a supportive environment in which to learn and develop, with the opportunity to further your skills and career within an exciting and evolving environment.

Joining our inclusive and innovative team comes with a range of benefits including flexible working arrangements, unlimited Pluralsite training, a generous pension scheme and generous annual leave allowance.

With our training schemes and support networks, you will be empowered to play a leading role in the future of healthcare, whatever your specialism or interest. And as a member of NHS staff you will receive plenty of discounts from a host of restaurants and high-street stores too.
