About the role?

We have been busy developing a range of services within the analytics, digital experience and digital capability space. These are now being transitioned to full Jisc services within the Data Analytics Directorate, and this role will be part of the team delivering the services as it expands.

The main purpose will be to provide expert support to universities and colleges as they implement the data and digital capability services to become digitally capable organisations. This may include the delivery of on-site consultancy and training, online support (e.g. webinars, video conferencing) and the development and delivery of consultancy support solutions. The post holder will be also be expected to provide support to the organisations during their use of the services, acting as key contact, and holding regular meetings with institutional contacts whilst being a role model of Jisc values and behaviours.

Software Engineer

Location: New Malden, Surrey.

My client, a world-renowned Industry Sector company, are looking for a Software Engineer to join the New Malden based team. You will be working within an established team of professionals who will all have a similar skill set and background to yourself, so you will be able to interact with like-minded individuals on a daily basis.

As a Software Engineer you will work as part of a team of engineers developing the mechanisms for automated deployment of software infrastructure and applications on Royal Navy platforms. The team-work across a number of Naval Combat System equipment's (CSEs) including the Combat Management System on surface and subsurface platforms as well as the Royal Navies new Shared Infrastructure Product. These systems are a complex combination of multi-million lines of source code developed in-house, integrated with a host of 3rd party COTS software packages to be deployed into a resilient, networked, multi-node system architecture.

Your main responsibilities as a Software Engineer will involve:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining scripts for packaging bespoke and COTS software into a deployable system build
  • Designing, developing and maintaining solutions for the automated deployment and configuration of the software infrastructure and applications
  • Performing investigations into deployment issues and develop solutions going forward
  • Supporting the installation process of builds alongside Integration Engineers.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in Windows operating systems
  • Windows Scripting Tools - VB Script, PowerShell or Batch Job, .Net Framework and XML
  • Experience in configuration management tools, concepts and file change control
  • Windows 7/10/Server 2008/2012/2016 functionality
  • Experience with VMware including its server software (ESXI), storage and networking.

Desirable:

  • Active directory and domain knowledge
  • Experience in VxWorks
  • Windows security features
  • Networks (architecture and protocols)
  • Experience in any structured programming language
