Job description

ClearScore is on a mission to improve financial well-being around the world. Thanks to our fantastic product we have the largest user base of any London-based Fintech and almost uniquely have a proven, profitable business model.

The raw material for our product is data and our product throws off data too. Lots of it.

And that’s where you come in. As a Data Analyst at ClearScore you will turn that raw data into insights that can change the business, the products and ultimately our users’ financial lives.

What are the kinds of projects you might take on?

  • Two months after joining, Amane, one of our mid-level analysts, found himself working on our nascent India business trying to figure out why our users weren’t returning as often as they did in the UK. He dug into different segments, talked to people to get ideas and came up with the hypothesis that in a mobile-first market like India, SMS was more effective than e-mail to re-engage users. He tested the hypothesis and doubled the rate at which Indian users return.
  • Ivan was looking at the rate of defaults of ClearScore users to help some of our lending partners. He noticed there were a group of users that were defaulting at worryingly high rates. The result was Resolve: a new service to help struggling users with their payments.
  • Our South African business was doing well but needed to reduce its cost to acquire new users. Alannah, also a mid-level analyst, dug into the website data. By optimising multiple features, even getting down to the nitty-gritty of performance logs she was able to get conversion up to UK levels

The key requirements are that you need to be smart and resilient, that you think analytically and communicate well (listen as well as talk!).

You’ll like numbers and data – but will realise that not all data sits in a warehouse or lake. Data is also user insight, competitor behaviours, the gut-feeling of your colleagues and so much more.

ClearScore aren’t interested in ivory towers – you’ll report to an analyst to ensure you have the right mentoring and growth, but you’ll be fully embedded in a business team and share in their objectives and successes.

Working in these small, close-knit teams means that you will be expected to pitch in and do what it takes to get the initiative over the line, even if it is not directly in your job description.

The ideal person will come with a natural curiosity and analytical nature. You’ll love learning, have an entrepreneurial attitude and a willingness to think creatively. We want you to make mistakes – if you don’t you probably aren’t pushing yourself. But we’d like you to only make them once. Once you’ve learned something, we expect that you’ll share it with others.

We won’t care if you have a few quirks – in fact we’re firm believers that you’ll only be at your best if you feel comfortable enough to bring your whole self to work.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years analytical work experience
  • Analytical problem solver
  • Comfortable using SQL and, ideally Python
  • Ability to deliver key findings to the business in a clear and concise manner
  • Good written and presenting skills
  • Numerate with a good attention to detail
  • Good degree in a quantitative subject

Benefits

  • Holidays – 25 paid holidays and a “duvet day” on your birthday
  • Pension – ClearScore matches up to 6%
  • Market-beating medical insurance - with the option to add friends and family
  • Dental cover with Denplan, the LARGEST dental provider in the UK – with the option to add family members
  • All permanent staff are automatically included in our ClearScore Group Life Assurance Scheme – life insurance cover will be an amount that is equal to 4x your basic salary
  • Perkbox – a choice of different benefits
  • Flexible work hours and the ability to work from home
  • Flexible, generous and personalised maternity and paternity plans
  • Monthly funded GP office visits
  • Free breakfast and fruit...and a beer fridge
  • Company personal trainer, boxing and yoga classes
  • Company clubs for football, climbing, cinema, board games... if there's not one for your passion, start one!
